CHAPTER 394.
AN ACT to repeal Section 12 of Article 48-A, title "Insur-
ance, " sub-title "Insurance Department, " and to repeal
and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and
11 of said Article, sub-title "Insurance Department, " and
Sections 19, 20, 29, 33 and 50 of said Article, sub-title
"General Provisions, " and Section 56 of said Article, sub-
title "Fire Investigation Bureau, " and Section 108 of said
Article, sub-title "Surety, Casualty, Liability and Com-
pensation Insurance, " and Sections 161 and 162 of said
Article, sub-title "Fraternal Beneficial Associations. "
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 12 of Article 48-A, title "Insurance, "
sub-title "Insurance Department, " be and the same is hereby
repealed, and that Sections 2, 5, 6, T, 8 and 11 of said
Article, sub-title "Insurance Department, " and Sections 19,
20, 29, 33 and 50 of said Article, sub-title "General Pro-
visions, " and Section 56 of said Article, sub-title "Fire In-
vestigation Bureau, " and Section 108 of said Article, sub-
title "Surety, Casualty, Liability and Compensation Insur-
ance, " and Sections 161 and 162 of said Article, sub-title
"Fraternal Beneficial Associations, " be, and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so as to
read as follows:
Section 2. Title and Jurisdiction. There shall be a de-
partment to be known as the State Insurance Department of
Maryland which shall be charged with the execution of the
laws of this State in relation to insurance, and which shall be
assigned to the Division of Financial Review and Control, and
with respect to its administrative as distinguished from its
judicial, semi-judicial or discretionary functions shall be
under the supervision and direction of the Comptroller. The
principal office of the said Department shall be located in the
City of Baltimore.
Section 5. Deputy Insurance Commissioner. There shall
also be a Deputy Insurance Commissioner, who shall be ap-
pointed by the commissioner, and who, in the event of the
absence, death, resignation, disability or disqualification of
the commissioner, or in case the office of commissioner shall
for any cause become vacant, shall have and exercise all the
