hold office until his successor is duly appointed and qualified;
said Judge of The Peoples Court shall be a resident and duly
qualified voter of one of the Election Districts for which he is
appointed; he shall be at least twenty-five years of age at the
time of his appointment, and shall be a man of integrity; when
so appointed he shall qualify before the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Wicomico County by subscribing and taking oath of
office in the same manner as Justices of the Peace now qualify;
said Judge of The Peoples Court, if he be a member of the bar,
shall not during the term for which he is appointed engage
directly or indirectly in the practice of the law; in case of
vacancy, death, removal from office, resignation or otherwise,
the Governor shall appoint a duly qualified person or persons to
serve for the unexpired term of said Judge of The Peoples
Court; the term of office or the compensation of said office shall
not be diminished during the term for which he is appointed.

COMPENSATION:

54-B. Said Judge of The Peoples Court shall receive an an-
nual salary of, Twenty-four Hundred Dollars, in monthly in-
stallments of Two Hundred Dollars each; the sum of One Hun-
dred and Fifty Dollars per month shall be paid by the County
Commissioners for Wicomico County, and the sum of Fifty Dol-
lars per month shall be paid by the Mayor and Council of Salis-
bury, Maryland, which said salary shall be in lieu of all fees
and costs in both civil and criminal cases, all of which said fees
and costs, including costs in motor vehicle cases, shall be paid
to the County Treasurer of Wicomico County.

CRIMINAL AND PEACE JURISDICTION:

54-C. Said Judge of The Peoples Court shall have jurisdic-
tion to try and determine all cases involving any offense, crime
or misdemeanor not punishable by confinement in the peniten-
tiary, or involving a felonious intent which may be committed
within the confines of Wicomico County, which said jurisdic
tion shall be exercised as concurrent with the Circuit Court for
Wicomico County; and lie shall have jurisdiction to hear, try
and determine all prosecutions and proceedings for the recovery
of any penalty for doing or omitting to do any act within Wi-
comico County, the doing of which or omission to do which, is
punishable under the laws of this State, by fine or imprison-
ment in jail or the House of Correction or any House of De-
tention; he shall have power to issue process and do all other
reasonable acts consistent with existing law, necessary for the
exercise of said jurisdiction; and he may pronounce judgment
and sentence in all cases coming before him within his juris-
diction in the same manner and to the same extent as the Cir-
