to the duties of their office as may be required by the County
Commissioner. That said assessors may be removed from
office with or without cause or notice by the County Commis-
sioners, who are authorized and empowered to appoint their
successors for the unexpired term.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said assessors
shall receive the sum of Two Dollars ($2) on every One
Thousand Dollars ($1, 000) of property assessed by them as
compensation for their services, said compensation not to be
paid until said assessment has been finally passed upon by
the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County; and
it shall be the duty of the said assessors to defend their assess-
ments in cases of appeals.
SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, That all Acts or parts of
Acts inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby
repealed.
SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the first day of June in the year Nineteen
Hundred and twenty-seven (1927).

CHAPTER 276.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 126
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924),
title "Elections, " sub-title "Compensation, " said amend-
ments providing for compensation for Judges and Clerks of
Election in Howard County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 126 of Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1924), title "Elections, " sub-title "Com-
pensation, " be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments so as to read as follows:
126. The sheriffs in the several counties shall, respectively,
be allowed the sum of twelve dollars ($12. 00) for each election
held in their county for the performance of the duties therein
