CHAPTER 203.
AN ACT relating to the Police Department of Baltimore City:
—Increasing the base or grade pay of certain grades and
ranks of the Police Department; granting additional com-
pensation for length of service to the grades and ranks of the
said Department; changing the status of substitute matrons;
providing that under certain restrictions and conditions, the
number of sergeants, patrolmen and police-women may be
increased with the joint concurrence of the Governor of the
State and the Mayor of Baltimore City; and providing when
said Act shall become effective as to certain of its provisions.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the base or grade salary of the Police Department
of Baltimore City be increased as follows; The chief inspector
shall receive Five Thousand Dollars ($5, 000. 00) per annum in-
stead of Four Thousand Dollars ($4, 000. 00) as now provided
by law; and the other inspectors shall each receive Four Thou-
sand Five Hundred Dollars ($4, 500. 00) per annum instead of
Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($3, 500. 00) as now pro-
vided by law; the Secretary to the Police Commissioner shall re-
ceive Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($4, 500. 00) per
annum instead of Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($3, -
500. 00) per annum as now provided by law; the assistant sec-
retary to the Police Commissioner shall receive Three Thousand
Dollars ($3, 000. 00) per annum instead of Two Thousand Three
Hundred Dollars ($2, 300. 00) per annum as now provided by
law; the secretary to the chief inspector shall receive Three
Thousand Dollars ($3, 000. 00) per annum instead of Two Thou-
sand Three Hundred Dollars ($2, 300. 00) per annum as now pro-
vided by law; the assistants to the secretary to the Commissioner
shall each receive Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2, -
500. 00) per annum, instead of Two Thousand Dollars ($2, 000. -
00) per annum, as now provided by law; the captain assigned
to have charge of the Detective Office shall receive Eighty Dol-
lars ($80. 00) per week, instead of Sixty Dollars ($60. 00) per
week, as now provided by law; and each of the other captains
shall receive Seventy Dollars ($70. 00) per week, instead of Fifty
Dollars ($50. 00) per week, as now provided by law; the lieu-
tenants in charge of the bureau of identification shall receive
Sixty Dollars ($60. 00) per week, instead of Forty-Seven
Dollars ($47. 00) per week, as now provided by law; and each
other lieutenant and lieutenant-detective shall receive Fifty-five
Dollars ($55. 00) per week, instead of Forty-Three Dollars
($43. 00) per week, as now provided by law; each sergeant and
detective-sergeant shall receive Forty Six Dollars and Fifty
