construct waterworks, water mains, pumping outfits and build-
ings for housing same in the town of Preston to furnish the
residents of said town with a good and sufficient supply of
water for ordinary purposes and for fire protection; and to
make contracts for the construction thereof, and shall have all
powers necessary or appropriate for said purpose and for the
constructing, working, maintaining and keeping in repairs such
waterworks.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the Commissioners
of Preston shall have full power and authority to acquire by
purchase, lease, gift, devise, or by condemnation in the manner
prescribed in Sections 331 to 337, inclusive, of Article 23 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title "Corpora-
tions, '' sub-title '' Condemnation of Property By Corporations, '"
any lands or any interest therein in said town of Preston, which
may be needed for the establishment, construction or main-
tenance of said waterworks.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the Commissioners
of Preston shall have power and authority and are hereby re-
quired to levy all necessary taxes upon the assessed property
within the said town, not exceeding the rate of taxation fixed in
the Charter of said town as the same may be, or may from time
to time be amended, for the purpose of paying the interest on
said bonds, and also for paying the principal thereof.
SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That the Commissioners
of Preston be and they are hereby authorized, empowered and
directed to install meters for the measurement of water supplied
from said water works; and the charge for water or water rents
shall be fixed by the Commissioners of Preston but flat rates
may be established.
SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1927.

CHAPTER 18.
AN ACT to repeal Section 70-A of Article 21 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Talbot County, " sub-
title "Easton, " as amended by Chapter 458 of the Acts passed
by the General Assembly of Maryland at the January session
of 1906 and to re-enact the same with amendments.
