of money may be necessary annually for the above purpose
on the assessable property of Montgomery County. Before the
County Commissioners shall be required to pay the aforesaid
sums of money to the respective fire companies, the said Com-
missioners shall have the power to require the officers of said
fire companies to appear before them and show to the satis-
faction of said Commissioners that any sums of money paid
by the said Commissioners to the said fire companies under
this Act have been expended for the purposes set forth in this
Act, and also that said respective fire companies are active
fire-fighting organizations, and show the equipment to be in
proper fire-fighting condition. In the event that any of the
fire companies hereinbefore mentioned cease to remain incorp-
orated bodies or active fire-fighting organizations, or have not
used the monies appropriated to them for the sole purposes
set forth in this Act, then the County Commissioners are
authorized and directed to refund to the County Treasurer
all monies not so expended.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That no volunteer fire de-
partment shall receive compensation from the County Com-
missioners in excess of Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1, 500. 00)
for more than three (3) pieces of apparatus.
SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1927.

CHAPTER 192.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 30
of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Fees
of Officers, " sub-title "Sheriffs, " increasing certain fees.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 30 of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland, title "Fees of Officers, " subtitle "Sheriffs, " be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read
as follows:
30. Sheriffs shall be entitled to charge and receive the fol-
lowing fees, to-wit:
For serving writ and return.................... $ 75
For taking bail bond........................... 50
