CHAPTER 536.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 48
of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, title "Workmen's Compensation, " to pro-
vide for double compensation for minors illegally employed,
and placing the burden of such extra compensation upon
the employer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 48 of Article 101 of the Annotated
Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Workmen's
Compensation, " be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

48. Every minor employee engaged in extra hazardous em-
ployment or work covered by this article shall be deemed sui
juris for the purposes of this Article; and no other person
shall have any cause of action or right to compensation for any
injury to such minor employee unless otherwise herein pro-
vided. All compensation and death benefits provided by this
Article, however, shall be doubled in the case of any minor
employed illegally under the laws of this State, with the
knowledge of the employer, and no insurance policy shall be
available to protect the employer of such minor from the
payment of the extra or additional compensation or benefits
to be awarded by reason of such illegal employment, but the
employer alone shall be liable for the said increased amount
of compensation or death benefits; provided, however, that the
certificate of the Commissioner of Labor and Statistics shall
be conclusive evidence of the legality of any employment for
the purposes of this Article.

CHAPTER 537.

AN ACT to provide for the appointment of a Coroner for
Harford County, and to define his duties and powers and
fix his compensation.
