taken to be due and in arrear from the date of the levy of said
taxes.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1924.

CHAPTER 315.
AN ACT to repeal Section 232, and to repeal and re-enact with
amendments Sections 227, 228, 229, 230, 231 and 235 of
Article 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title, ''Somerset County, " sub-title, ''Roads, " as said sec-
tions were amended by Chapter 260 of the Acts of 1916,
authorizing an increase in the road levy and relating to the
appointment, compensation, powers and duties of the Coun-
ty Road Superintendent.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 232 of Article 20 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland, title, "Somerset County, " sub-title,
"Roads, " be and it is hereby repealed and that Sections 227,
228, 229, 230, 231 and 235 of said Article, as said sections were
amended by Chapter 260 of the Acts of 1916, be and they are
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as
follows:
227. The County Commissioners of Somerset County shall,
at the time of making their annual levy, levy upon the taxable
property of said County a tax not less than thirty
cents, nor more than thirty-five cents, on the one hun-
dred dollars, which shall be used for the repair and recon-
struction of public roads and bridges in said County, which
taxes shall be levied and collected as other taxes. The County
Commissioners may levy and appropriate such other sum or
sums of money as they may deem requisite for the building of
any new bridge or the opening of any new road, new drain or
ditch. All of the taxes levied and collected under the provi-
sions of this Section shall be disbursed by the said County
Commissioners of Somerset County upon the roads and bridges
in said County, and in the manner hereinafter provided, and in
no other way.
228. The Chairman of the State Roads Commission and Di-
rector of Public Works shall, on or before the second Tuesday in
December, in each and every year, beginning on the second Tues-
