of such general improvement or improvements in the said
town as they, in the exercise of their judgment, have deemed
it necessary to issue the bonds for.

SEC. 8. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1924.

Approved April 9, 1924.

CHAPTER 43.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Council of
Oakland, in Garrett County, to repave the roads of the said
town and to make general improvements in the said town
and to issue and sell for that purpose bonds of the said town
in an amount not to exceed twenty thousand dollars ($20, -
000), and to refer said questions to the qualified voters of
said town.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and Council of Oakland, in Garrett
County, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to
repave the roads of the said town in a manner to be determined
upon by them and to make such general improvements as they
may deem necessary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the purpose of
paying for such repaving and general improvements the Mayor
and Council of Oakland are hereby authorized and empowered
to borrow on the faith and credit of the said Town of Oakland
the sum of twenty thousand dollars ($20, 000) or so much
thereof as may, in their judgment, be necessary for the said
repaving and general improvements, and to issue therefor
bonds, with or without coupons, and in such denomination or
denominations, and bearing interest at such rate, not exceeding
six per centum per annum, as the Mayor and Council of Oak-
land shall determine.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the bonds issued
under authority of this Act shall be dated as of the date of
their issue, and they must be issued under the seal of the said
town, signed by the Mayor and countersigned by the Town
Treasurer, or other person acting in that or a similar capacity.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the bonds hereby
authorized to be issued may be issued under what is known as
