and execute them under and by virtue of the law and the ordi-
nances to the best of their ability. The Mayor may, whenever
he may deem it to the best interest of the city, suspend any
police officer or street supervisor, without pay, for a period
not exceeding one month. He shall report to the Council his
action, and if he deems it advisable and for the best interests
of the city he may prefer charges against said officers or any
of them to he Council, who shall compel answer by the per-
son charged and try the same. The Mayor shall receive for
his services a salary of five hundred dollars per annum, pay-
able semi-annually.
66. The Mayor and City Council shall meet on the second
Wednesday following their election, and shall thereafter hold
regular meetings on the second Wednesday in each month, and
may adjourn from time to time as they may appoint, and called
meetings may be called in writing by the Mayor (or by ma-
jority of the Council, as often as may be deemed necessary
for the transaction of business). A majority of the Council-
men shall be a quorum for the transaction of any business, a
majority of those present constituting a quorum to decide any
question. The Councilmen shall each receive a salary of two
hundred dollars per annum, payable semi-annually. The
Council may elect a permanent president pro tem.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1924.

CHAPTER 186.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 20 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title, "Somerset County, "
sub-title, "Justices of the Peace and Constables, " said new
section to be known as Section 135A, and to follow imme-
diately after Section 135 of said Article, providing for the
removal of trial cases from one Justice of the Peace to an-
other Justice of the Peace.
