(Provided, however, that the increase in the salaries of any
judicial office mentioned in the above items 1 to 34, both
inclusive, over the salary provided for such office prior to
the passage of the Act making general appropriations for
the support of the State Government, etc., approved April
13, 1922, shall cease to be applicable when, if and as often
as such office becomes vacant or the term thereof expires
subsequent to February 15, 1924, but prior to January 9,
1927; but this proviso shall not apply to the office of the
Judge of the Court of Appeals from Baltimore City, if said
office should become vacant prior to May 1, 1924, and a
successor to the present incumbent should be appointed by
the Governor, so long as said successor so appointed shall
fill said office either by appointment or election: nor shall
this proviso apply to any judicial office which may become
vacant or the term thereof expires and the present incum-
bent of such office is appointed to fill such vacancy or be re-
elected to such office, and this proviso shall supersede the
provisos contained in said Act of April 13, 1922, relating to
the increase of judicial salaries. )
