fore the amounts assessed against them are finally determined
upon, and either party feeling aggrieved at the action of said
Councilman or Councilmen shall have the right to appeal as
hereinbefore provided.

SEC. 2. And be it hereby further enacted, That this Act
shall take effect June 1st, 1924.

CHAPTER 121.

AN ACT to cede jurisdiction to the United States of America

over, and to authorize the Governor to execute and deliver to
the United States of America a deed conveying in fee simple
to the said United States of America a tract of land owned
by the State of Maryland, and constituting a part of the
area known as Battery Cove, and situated at Jones Point on
the west or right bank of the Potomac River just below the
City of Alexandria, Virginia, for certain public purposes, to
wit, the maintenance or construction of a lighthouse or
other aid to navigation.

WHEREAS, the War Department of the United States of
America has heretofore filled in and reclaimed certain ground
in the area known as Battery Cove, which area was formerly
a portion of the river bottom of the Potomac River and is sit-
uated at Jones Point on the west or right bank of the Potomac
River just below the City of Alexandria, Virginia, and the said
United States of America now desires to utilize the said reclaimed
land for public governmental purposes, namely, for lighthouse
purposes and for maintaining or constructing aids to naviga-
tion; now therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Governor be and he is hereby authorized and
empowered to execute and deliver to the United States of
America a deed conveying in fee simple to the said United
States of America a tract of land now forming a part of the
area known as Battery Cove, and situated at Jones Point on
the west or right bank of the Potomac River just below the
City of Alexandria, Virginia, and being more particularly de-
scribed as follows:

Beginning for the same at a point (A) (said point A being
shown on a plat entitled Battery Cove, Potomac River, Alex-
andria, Virginia, surveyed and mapped August, 1910, under
