367 in Said County on the third tuesday in March being the Twentieth day of Said Month Anno Dom. One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty two Came the afd Abraham Lake and in his proper person appeared according to the tenor of the afd recognizance &c.a And prayed that the afd recognizance might be discharged Ordered by this Court that the Same Recognizance be disch.d The afd Thomas Aires his Recognizance taken as afd for the appearance of the afd Abraham Lake is by this Court here disch.d
the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court in and upon Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Aires in the peace of God and of the Said Lord prop.ry then and there being with force and Arms an assault did make and her the said Elizabeth then and there did beat wound and evilly treat So that of her life it was much dispaired and other harms to her then and there did to the great damage of the said Elizabeth and against the peace of the said Lord prop.ry his good rule and dignity &c.a Test Abraham Lake Thomas Aires T francis Cler. pac. On the same was endorsed viz Billa Vera p Simon Wilmer foreman And the afd Edward Couzens jun.r in his proper person comes and Saith that he cannot gainsay the Indictment afd so as afd against him brought nor but that he is guilty of the premisses above upon him Imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged And thereupon Submits to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at Kent County at the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said Coty on the third tuesday in March being the twentieth day of Said Month Anno Dom. One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty Two That the afd Edward Couzens pay ^to^ the Use of his Said Lordship the Sum of One Thousand pounds of Tobacco as a fine for Committing the assault afd as by his Confession afd and also pay the Sum of four hundred and fifteen pounds of Tobacco Costs accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court Ordered by this Court That the afd Edward Couzens jun.r be Committed for the fine afd And that John Gresham Gentl. Sherrif of Said County keep the afd Edward Couzens in Custody untill the fine afd Shall be Satisfied Ordered by this Court that the afd Edward Couzens junr. give Security for the fees afd Thereupon Thomas Aires & William Gatenby both of Kent County Planters present in their proper persons Do under take joyntly and Severally the paym.t of the fees afd amounting to the Sum of four hundred and fifteen pounds of Tobacco That is to Say to each officer the fees becoming due to him on the premisses afd to the Several officers of this Court Jam.s Smith Clk |
