BOUNDARIES
OF THE TWENTY WARDS IN THE CITY OF BALTIMORE.
THE undersigned, duly appointed by the Governor of Maryland, Commissioners under an act of the'
General Assembly of Maryland, passed at December session, 1844, chapter, 282, entitled " An act to
provide for the division of the city of Baltimore into twenty wards, and for other purposes," three of
said commissioners being residents west, and the other two east of Jones's falls—hereby make a return,
under their hands and seals, that they have divided the said city of Baltimore into twenty wards in ac-
cordance with the said law, and that they have located eight of said ward's east of Jones's falls, and the
remaining twelve of said wards west of Jones's falls; which said eight wards east of Jones's falls, they
have designated by the numbers one, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight, respectively, and which,
said twelve wards west of Jones's falls they have designated by the numbers nine; ten, eleven, twelve,
thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen,and twenty, respectively. The metes
and bounds are as follow:
1st ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Broadway would intersect the water of.
the north-west branch of Patap.sco river, and running thence northwardly along the centre of Broad-
way to aline drawn along the centre of Bank street, thence eastwardly along the centre of Wolf street
to a line drawn along the centre of Fayette street, thence eastwardly along the centre of Fayette street to
a line drawn along the centre of the Philadelphia turnpike road, thence eastwardly along the centre of
said road to the eastern boundary line of the city, thence southwardly along said line to the water of the
harbor, thence along said water to the place of beginning.
2nd ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Broadway would intersect the water
of the north-west branch of the Patapsco river, and running thence northwardly along the centre of
Broadway to a line drawn along the centre of Bank street, and thence westward'ly along the centre of
Bank street to a line drawn along the centre of Exeter street, thence northwardly along the centre of Ex-
eter street to aline drawn along the centre of Fawn street, and thence westwardty along the centre of
Fawn street to the centre of Jones's falls, and thence southwardly along the centre of Jones's falls to the
water of the city dock, and thence bounding on the water of the said dock and" of the north-west branch
of the Patapsco river to the place of beginning
3rd ward.—Beginning where aline drawn along the centre of Wolf street would intersect a. line
drawn along the centre of Bank street, running thence northwardly along the centre of Wolf street to a,
line drawn along the centre of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the centre of Fayette street, to a
line drawn along the centre of Canal street, thence southwardly along the centre of Canal street to a line
drawn along the centre of Bank street, and thence eastwardly along the centre of Bank street to the
place of beginning.
4th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Canal street would intersect a line
drawn along the centre of Bank street, running thence northwardly along the centre of Canal street to
a line drawn along the centre of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the centre of Fayette street to
the centre of Jones's falls, thence southwardly along the centre of Jones's falls, to a line drawn along
the centre of Fawn street, thence eastwardly along the centre of Fawn street to aline drawn along the
centre of Exeter street, thence southwardly along the centre of Exeter street to a line drawn along the
centre of Bank street, thence along the centre of Bank street to the plate of beginning.
5th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of East street would intersect aline drawn
along the centre of Fayette street, and running thence northwardly along the centre of East street to a
