23. The several sections and provisions of this Article are
hereby declared to be independent of each other; and it is the
legislative intent that, if any of said sections or provisions are
declared to be unconstitutional, such section or provision shall
not affect any other portion of this Article.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1922.

CHAPTER 391.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the County Commissioners
of Montgomery County, Maryland, to widen and improve
the road commonly known as the Rockville and Georgetown
Pike between certain limits beginning at the line of the Dis-
trict of Columbia where said road intersects with said Dis-
trict line and along said road to a point where the road
known as the old Georgetown road at the village of Edge-
moor intersects with the Rockville and Georgetown Pike.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Montgomery County
be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to take such
necessary action as they may deem expedient for the purpose of
widening, improving and maintaining the road known as the
Rockville and Georgetown Pike beginning at the line of the
District of Columbia on said road to a point on said road
where, the old Georgetown Pike intersects with the Rockville
to Georgetown Pike at the village of Edgemoor and about in
front of the premises owned and occupied by Robert D.
Hagner.

SEC. 2. And.be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners in their discretion may cause to be condemned such
land and premises as may be necessary for the purpose of
widening, improving and maintaining said thoroughfare along
the lines indicated; that said road may be widened, located or
re-located by said Commissioners under the provisions of the
General Laws of Maryland authorizing, requiring and direct-
ing the Commissioners to open, alter, locate or re-locate any
public road or by condemnation proceedings as provided for
under the General Laws of this State. That said Commis-
sioners may, however, accept from the owner of any land ad-
