proportions"; and to enact in lieu thereof, an act to author-
ize and empower the Judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit
of Maryland, to appoint one Official Court Stenographer for
the Circuit Court of Washington County, and one Official
Court Stenographer for the Circuit Courts for Allegany
and Garrett Counties, and to define his or her duties, and to
provide for his or her compensation by the County Commis-
sioners of Washington County and the County Commission-
ers of Allegany and Garrett Counties.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Chapter 201 of the Acts of 1920 entitled "An Act
to authorize and empower the Judges of the Fourth Judicial
Circuit of Maryland to appoint an Official Court Stenographer
for said Circuit, to define his duties and provide for his com-
pensation by the County Commissioners of Allegany, Garrett
and Washington Counties in certain proportions, be and the
same is hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. Be it further enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit of
Maryland, be and they are hereby authorized and directed to
appoint two Official Court Stenographers, one for the Circuit
Court for Washington County and one for the Circuit Courts
for Allegany and Garrett Counties, who shall be sworn officers
of the courts of said circuit. And the said Court Stenographer
so appointed for the Circuit Court for Washington County
shall receive a salary of $750. 00 per annum from the time of
his or her appointment or qualification. And the said Court
Stenographer so appointed for the Circuit Courts for Allegany
and Garrett Counties shall receive a salary of $1, 800. 00 per
annum from the time of his or her appointment and qualifica-
tion.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Washington County shall levy and pay to the
said Court Stenographer so appointed for the Circuit Court
for Washington County the said sum of $750. 00 in monthly
installments on or before the 10th day of each month as long
as said Court Stenographer is performing the official duties
herein provided for, or until said County Commissioners are
notified by the Judges of said circuit, or any of them, to the
contrary.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Allegany County shall levy and pay to the said
