COUNTY OFFICERS.

St. Mary's County.

The sheriff is elected by thr people to serve three
years—registers of wills are chosen by the legislature,
to serve during good behaviour—the county clerks are
appointed by thr judges of the court at pleasure—the
judges of the orphans court, justices of the levy court
and justices of the peace and coroners, are appointed
by the executive, annually, in January—surveyors and
inspectors of tobacco are appointed by the executive
at pleasure.
