Fish, cannot be otherwise than abundant,
where water is so convenient as it is in this
state The Shad and Herring fisheries are of
vast advantage, furnishing not only a material
article for consumation within the state, but a
profitable item for exportation. The Perch,
Rock, Mackarel, Trout, Ale Wife, Catfish,
Place, Flounder, Whiting, Pike, Sole, Sheep's
Head, Drums, and many other varieties are
taken in the waters of the Chesapeake and its
tributaries, and constitute.no small, proportion
of the food of the inhabitants.

REPTILES—Of the venemous kinds are ra-
pidly disappearing, with the native forrests
and marches that are yielding to cultivation.
