NOVEMBER. LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP.

LXX.

exceeding two thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said
James Williams, Absalom Ridgely, William Alexander, John Barber, Joseph Sands, Lewis Neth,
John Shaw, Jonathan Pinkney, Frederick Grammar, Frederick Green, John Muir and William Ga- *
ton, or such majority of them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or dis-
posal of any ticket or tickets in the said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the
penalty of five thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly apply so much of the mo-
ney arising therefrom, within six months after the drawing of the said lottery shall commence, as
will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prises drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary
expences incurred in the said lottery, shall, within twelve months from the time the drawing of the
said lottery shall commence, cause the balance of the money raised by the said lottery to be applied
in improving and repairing the streets of Annapolis, for deepening the dock of the said city, and
also for the purchase of a fire-engine for the use of the said city, in the best manner the said sum of
money will admit.

II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said James Williams, Absalom Ridgely, William Alexander,
John Barber, Joseph Sands, Lewis Neth, John Shaw, Jonathan Pinkney, Frederick Grammar, Fre-
derick Green, John Muir and William Caton, or such majority of them as may act under this law,
shall, before they act under this law, lodge in the cterk's office of Anne-Arundel county, the bond
so as aforesaid to be given by them, there to be recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy
thereof, suit or suits may be instituted against the obligor or obligors therein, or any of them, or
their legal representatives, for any breach or non-compliance with the condition of the same

CHAP. LXXI.

Passed 7th of
January, 1804.

An ACT relating to the records in the office of the register of wills
in Harford county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly, by the register of wills of Har-
ford county, and certified by the orphans court of said county, that the records in said office
are in a ruinous and imperfect state, and that a new record made from the original papers in the said
office would be of great utility;

recorded, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the
justices of the orphans court in Harford county, and they are hereby empowered and required, to
cause to be recorded from the original papers in said office, by the register of wills of said county,
in good leathern bound books, to which a fair alphabet shall be prefixed, all such papers filed and
recorded in the office of the register of wills of said county as they, or a majority of them, shall in
their judgment deem necessary and proper to be recorded.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said register shall be entitled to the same fees for recording
any original paper in pursuance of the direction of the justices of the orphans court, or a majority
of them, as are now allowed by law for the performance of like service

To make out
a fair account,
&c.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said register shall, before the first day of May, eighteen
hundred and four, and before the first day of May annually thereafter until the whole recording as
aforesaid be completed, make out a fair account of the services by him performed in pursuance of
this act, and the costs of the record-books for the same, and the account of the said register, when
examined and passed by the justices of the said orphans court, or a majority of them, shall be by
them certified, under their respective hands and seals, and transmitted to the justices of the levy
court of Harford county, who shall assess and levy, on the assessable property of said county, a
sum of money, exctusive of the commission now allowed by law for collecting the same, sufficient to
discharge the said account, and the same, when collected, shall be paid to the said register.

Duration.

V. AND BE IT ENACTED, That this act shall continue in force until the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and seven, and no longer.

CHAP. LXXII.

Passed 7th of
January, 1804,

An ACT for the benefit of Philip Green and Jacob Green, of Prince-
George's county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of Christopher Hyatt, of
Prince George's county, guardian to Philip Green and Jacob Green, that Jacob Green, late
of the county aforesaid, did, by his last will and testament, among other things, devise to the said
