NOVEMBER. LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP.
XLV.

Who are enti-
tled to vote,
&c.

X. AND BE IT ENACTED, That after the first election of a vestry to the said church, no person
shall be entitled to vote for a vestryman for said church but free white male citizens, twenty-one
years of age, holding a pew, or half of a pew, in the said church, and professing themselves mem-
bers of the same.

Proceedings
approved.

XL AND, whereas the said trustees have erected a parsonage-house on the lot whereon they have
built the said church, BE IT ENACTED, That their proceedings in this respect are approved and con-
firmed.

Any vestry
may purchase
in fee, &c.

XII. AND BE IT ENACTED, That any vestry of the said church for the time being may purchase
the fee of the lot on which the said church is built, and the fee of the lot of land purchased, or
which may hereafter be purchased, for a burial-ground, if the same shall not in the first instance be
purchased in fee.

Part of an act
repealed.

XIII. AND BE IT ENACTED, That every thing in the original law to which this is a supplement
contrary to the provisions herein contained, is and the same hereby stands repealed.

CHAP. XLVI.

January, 1804.

An additional supplement to the act, entitled, An ad to regulate
elections.

Commissioners
appointed, &c.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Samuel Duvall, William Ballinger,
Michael Myer, Peter Shover and Norman Bruce, be and they are hereby appointed and au-
thorised, or a majority of them, or a majority of the survivors of them, commissioners to lay off
Frederick county into nine separate election districts, in conformity to the aft, entitled, An act to al-
ter and repeal such parts of the constitution and form of government of this as relate to the division
of Frederick county into election districts, and of the act, entitled, An act to confirm an act, en-
titled, An act to alter and repeal such parts of the constitution and form of government of this
state as relate to the division of Frederick county into election districts, carefully making the sever
ral districts as nearly equal as possible, having regard to population, extent, and convenience of the
voters, and each election district shall be numbered by said commissioners, and known thereafter by
such number; and also to make choice of a place in each district at which the election shall be held,
as nearly central as shall be practicable, having regard to the circumstances aforesaid, and the ac-
commodation of persons attendant upon such election; and the said commissioners, or a majority of
them, or a majority of the survivors of them, shall, on or before the first day of May next, deliver
to the cterk of the county court of said county a description, in writing, under their hands and seals,
specifying plainly the boundaries and number of each district, and also the place in each district
where the election for such district shall be held, and the said cterk shall record the same in the re-
cords of the said county.

Who shall
meet, &c.

II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the commissioners appointed by this act, or a majority of them,
or a majority of the survivors of them, shall meet at the usual place of holding the county court of
said county on the first Monday of April next, for the purpose of performing the duties imposed by
this act, and the commissioners or commissioner go meeting may adjourn from time to time, and
from place to place, until the whole is completed.

Court to ap-
point persons,
&c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of Frederick county shall, sometime in the month
of May next, and in the same month annually for ever thereafter, appoint three persons for each
election district, residents therein, who, or a majority, or any one of whom, in case of the non-at-
tendance of the other two, shall be the judges of the election for such district from the time of their
appointment until a new appointment; and the judges so appointed shall have, hold and exercise,
the same powers and authority, and be subject to the same penalties, as the judges of elections in
the several counties of this state now are.

Laws to be in
force, &c.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all laws now in force with respect to the time, manner and
mode, of conducting and regulating elections in the several counties of this state, shall be and they
are hereby dectared to be in full force in Frederick county.

Compensation
to be made.

V. AND BE IT ENACTED, That for all services to be performed by this act, the levy court of said
county shall make reasonable compensation out of the county leviest
