NOVEMBER. LAWS OF M A R Y L A N D.

CHAP.
LXXXII.

curity, in the name of the state of Maryland, to be approved by the orphans court of the said
county, shall be given by the person or persons empowered to sell the land as aforesaid, for the
due execution of the trust committed, which bond shall be lodged with the register of wills for
the county aforesaid, and the said bond shall be recorded, and be subject to be put in suit by any
person or persons interested, in the same manner as administration bonds now are.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the trustee or trustees appointed by virtue of this act shall
be accountable to the administratrix of Levin Townsend aforesaid, under the directions of the
orphans court for the county aforesaid, and pay over the money arising from the sale of the land
aforesaid in such manner as the court aforesaid shall or may direct.

Conveyance
declared valid,
&c.

V. AND BE IT ENACTED, That any conveyance or deed made by the trustee or trustees of the
heirs of Levin Townsend aforesaid, pursuant to the directions of the orphans court of the county
aforesaid, shall and is hereby declared to be valid and effectual, and to have such operation and
effect as declared by the order of the orphans court who directed the same.

Court to strike
the distributive
shares, &c,

VI. AND BE IT ENACTED, That on the sale of the land aforesaid, and the money arising there-
on being paid over by the trustee or trustees, under the direction of the orphans court for the
county aforesaid, in the discharge of the debts and claims against the estate of the said Levin
Townsend, the orphans court shall strike the distributive shares of the personal estate so kept in
lieu of the land aforesaid amongst the widow and heirs of the said Levin, in such manner as may
appear to them just ; provided, that the said widow receive as her share not more than the one,
fifth of said personal estate so kept, nor, less than the eighth,

C H A P. LXXXIIL.

A Further supplement to an act, entitled, An act relating to the
public roads in Somerset county.

Overseers to
make compen-
sation &c.

BE IT, ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this,
act, the several and respective overseers of the public roads in Somerset county shall make
or secure to be made, due compensation to the proprietor or proprietors of any tree or trees
which they may cut down for the purpose of making or repairing any bridge or causeway under
their care and direction, in such manner as the levy court of said county shall direct and appoint;
provided, that before any tree or trees shall be cut down for the purposes aforesaid, notice thereof
shall be given to the owner, tenant or overseer, of the land an which the said trees may be.

II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That every overseer appointed by virtue of the act to which this in
a further supplement, shall be allowed a sum not exceeding fifteen dollars by the year for the per-
formance of the several duties required of , them by said act, and to be paid as prescribed by said-
act.

Justices to as-
sess money,
&c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the justices of the levy court of Somerset county shall be
and they are hereby empowered aad directed to assess and levy on the assessable property of'
said county, at the time of levying their next county assessment, any sum or sums of money not
exceeding five hundred dollars in addition to the sum already allowed by law to be levied, the
said sum or sums to be applied, to the purpose of repairing the causeway, bridge and wharf, at
Vienna, and the bridge at Salisbury.

Part of an act
repealed.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all and every part of the original act to which this is a further-
supplement which is or may be repugnant to this act, be and the same is hereby repealed and
made void.
C H A P. LXXXIV.

Dec. 1801.

A Further supplement to the act, entitled. An ad to provide for
the administration of justice in cases of crimes and misdemeanors
in the city and county of Baltimore

Compensation
to associates.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That each associate justice appointed and
commissioned in virtue of the act to which this is a supplement, shall receive, as a compen-
sation for his services, the sum of four dollars for every day he shall attend the duty of his office

and the said allowance shall be assessed in the assessment of his county,
