1801.

VI. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of the said county be and they are hereby vested
with power and authority to apportion the labourers on the several public roads in the said county,
and to make such further regulations to carry the road laws of said county into effect as they may
think proper.

VII. AND BE IT ENACTED, That a road already laid out from the town of Cumberland to
Sidling hill creek, by virtue of an act, entitled, An act to lay out, alter and confirm, certain
roads in Ailegany county, so far as the same is opened, shall be deemed and considered as a public
road, and shall be cleared and kept in repair in manner as is provided for the repairing the public
roads of said county ; and upon the further opening of the said road, such part thereof shall im-
mediately be considered as part of the public roads of the said county, and shall be cleared and
kept in repair in manner aforesaid.

VIII. AND BE IT ENACTED, That this act shall be in force for three years, and to the end of
the next session of assembly that shall happen thereafter.

CHAP. XXVII.

Duration

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for im-
proving the navigation of the eastern branch of Patowmack
river.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants
of the town of Bladensburg, in Prince-George's county, that they labour under great dis-
advantages in trade by reason of obstructions in the eastern branch of Patowmack river, and have
prayed that a law may pass authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money, not exceeding two thou-
sand dollars, for the purpose of improving the navigation of said eastern branch of Patowmack
river ; therefore,

Preambles

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Hen-
ry Joseph Stier, Benjamin Lowndes, Thomas Dick, Richard Ponsonby, Patrick Daugherty, Willi-
am Bruce and Richard Cramphin, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme or schemes of a lot-
tery for raising a sum of money, not exceeding two thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the
tickets thereof, provided the said Henry Joseph Stier, Benjamin Lowndes, Thomas Dick, Richard
Ponsonby, Patrick Daugherty, William Bruce and Richard Cramphin, or such majority of them
as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets
In said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of five thousand dollars,
conditioned that they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within six
months after the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers
for prizes drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred in said lottery,
shall, within twelve months from the time the drawing of said lottery, shall commence, cause
the said eastern branch of Patowmack river to be cleared out, and the navigation thereof im-
proved, in the best manner the sum of money raised by the said lottery will admit.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of said commissioners, before they act as
such, to lodge such bond in the clerk's office of Prince-George's county, there to be recorded, and
upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors
therein, or any of them, or their or any of their legal representatives, for any breach or non-
compliance with the condition of the same,

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That William Maccubbin, Daniel Stans-
bury and John Patridge, of Baltimore county, and Gilbert Jones and John Moores, of Har-
ford county, or any three of them, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners of review, and
they, or a majority of them, are hereby directed and authorised to view, lay out, survey, mark
and bound, that part of the public road leading from Belle-Air to the city of Baltimore, and here-
