The bill to empower the executive to purchase arms for the use of the militia of this state, and for other
purposes therein mentioned, was read the second time and passed.

On the second reading of the bill to alter the time of the meeting of the court of appeals, and for other pur-
poses, the question was put. That the further consideration of the same be referred to the next general assem-
bly? Determined in the negative.
The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

The following resolution was read.

RESOLVED, That all proceedings be further stayed on a judgment obtained against John Smith Brookes, of
Prince George's county, at the suit of the state, until the firs; day of December next, on his paying up all the
interest due thereon.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

The bill to alter the times of the meeting of the court of appeals, and for other purposes, the bill to empower
the executive to purchase arms for the use of the militia of this state and for other purposes therein mention-
ed, the additional supplement to the act, entitled, An act to lay out and make a public road from the Black-
house, in Harford county, to intersect the Pennsylvania line, the bill to authorise a lottery to raise a sum of
money for the use of the German lutheran and presbyterian congregations in or near Boonsborough, in Washing-
ton county, the resolutions relative to the inspection of public records, and the resolution relative to the Peni-
tentiary, were sent to the senate by the clerk.

The engrossed bills No. 14, 44. 49, 71, 72, 73. 96, 45, 46, 47, 48, and from. No. 50 to 70 inclusive, and
No. 74 and 75, were read, assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Randall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas Owings, beg leave to report, that they have
taken the same into their serious consideration, and are of opinion that his case is provided for by a law passed
at November session, seventeen hundred and eighty-five, therefore the petitioner have leave to withdraw his
petition. All which is submitted.

Mr. Porter, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of numerous and respectable portion of the inhabitants
of Caecil county, in favour of John Maloy, beg leave to report, that they have taken the peculiar situation of
said Maloy into their most serious consideration, and are of opinion, from his age and infirmities, he is justly
entitled to claim the assistance of this legislature; they therefore recommend the following resolution:
RESOLVED, That the county court of Caecil county do, and are hereby authorised and required, upon the ap-
plication of John Maloy, of said county, to grant him from year to year during his life, a license to hawk and
peddle without his the said John Maloy's paying any thing therefor.

All which is submitted.

Which was read the first and second time by especial order, the resolution therein contained assented to, and
sent to the senate by the clerk.

The bill for the benefit of William Smith, devisee of Robert Smith, late of Harford county, deceased, was
read the second time, and the question put, Shall the said bill pass? Determined in the negative.

The bill to lay out and open a road in Anne-Arundel county from John Crow's mill to Mary Pue's lane, was
rend the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill to make public a road in Montgomery county, and a bill to authorise
the levy court of Worcester county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned, seve-
rally endorsed, "will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. Also a bill, entitled, An act to suppress insurances in
the state of Maryland by the London Phoenix fire insurance company, and for other purposes, endorsed, " will
pass; " which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table. Also the resolutions disapproving of the
resolutions of Virginia and Vermont, endorsed, " the first assented to, and the second dissented from. " And
the following message:
