Mr. Bowles from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to extend further the powers
ef the commissioners of Elizabeth-town, in Washington county; which was read the first time and ordered to
lie on the table.

Mr. Veazey has leave of absence.

A memorial from Matthew Steene, counter to the petition of William H. Smith, was preferred, read, and
referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

ORDERED, That Mr. Chapman and Mr. Seth be added to the said committee.

Mr. Bland, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Mary Steadicorn, of the city of Baltimore, praying to
be divorced, having taken her case under their most serious consideration, are of opinion that the prayer of the
petitioner ought not to be granted, and that the said petitioner have leave to withdraw her petition. All which
is submitted.

By order, D. L. JACOB, clk.
Which was read the first and second time by especial order and concurred with.
The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

SATURDAY, December 10, 1808.
THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Veazey. The proceedings of
yesterday were read.

The bill to lay out and straighten a road in Baltimore county, the supplement to an act, entitled, An act to
lay out and straighten a road in Baltimore county, the bill authorising Solomon Scott, late sheriff of Queen-
Anne's county, to complete his collection, the bill to authorise the judges of Saint-Mary's county court to direct
a division or sale of the real estate of Robert Young, late of Saint-Mary's county, deceased, the bill for the
more effectual preservation of the breed of wild deer in Dorchester county, the resolution in favour of William
D. Beall, and the resolutions disapproving of the resolutions of the legislatures of Virginia and Vermont, pro-
posing a change in the constitution of the United States, were sent to the senate by the clerk.

The amendment proposed to the bill to remit certain forfeitures incurred under the act, entitled, An act to
Incorporate a fire insurance company in the city of Baltimore, was read the second time, agreed to, and the bill
ordered to be engrossed.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the supplement to the act, entitled. An act to incorporate the
stockholders of the Mechanics Bank of Baltimore, and the question was put, That the preamble be stricken
out? Resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the following clause be inserted at the end of the bill? viz. " And be it
enacted, That so much of the act to which this is a supplement, as requires that one fifth of the directors elected
by the stockholders shall go out annually, shall be and the same is hereby repealed. " Resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative. Which bill was sent to the
senate by the clerk.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, counter to the petitions for a bridge over Susquehanna,
Was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions to which it is counter.

Mr. Bland, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the Following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Helena Say, of the city of Baltimore, praying to be
divorced, having taken the petitioner's case under their serious consideration, and art of opinion that the prayer
of the petitioner ought not to be granted, and that the said petitioner have leave to withdraw her petition. All
which is submitted.

By order, S. LOWDERMILK, clk.
Which was read the first and second time by especial order and concurred with.

A petition from Richard Bond, of Baltimore county, praying to be supported out of the poors house, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Randall, Mr. Harryman and Mr. Brown, to consider and report thereon.

The report of the committee on the petition of Vachel Burgess was read the second time, the resolution
therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

ORDERED, That the bill to authorise the county court of Prince-George's county to grant a commission to
mark and bound the land therein mentioned, be recommitted for amendment.

The bill to establish and confirm certain acts done by persons holding offices of trust or profit under the go-
vernment of the United States, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

On motion, the question was put, That leave be given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to tax bank stock
in this state, and for other purposes? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
