So it was resolved in the affirmative.

The clerk of the senate delivers a bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An act to incorporate the
stockholders of the Mechanics Bank of Baltimore, endorsed, " will pass; " which was read the first time and
ordered to lie on the table. The bill to open a road in Frederick county, the bill authorising George Robertson
and Dorothy Robertson to convey certain hinds therein mentioned, and the bill to confirm a sale of land made
by the executors of Henry Willis to Joseph Haines, severally endorsed, "will pass" Ordered to be engrossed.
The bill to authorise and empower the levy court of Queen-Anne's county to assess and lew a sum of money for
the purposes therein mentioned, endorsed, "will puss with the proposed amendments; " which amendments
were read. The bill authorising repairs to the old, or the erection of a new, gaol in Frederick-town, in Frede-
rick county, endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amendment; " which amendment was read the first and se-
cond time, agreed to, and the bill ordered be engrossed. The bill to repeal pan of an act of assembly
therein mentioned, endorsed, " will not pass" And a letter from the executive, enclosing an account of the
contingent expenses of government for the last, year, and suggesting the propriety of increasing said fund;
which was read.

Mr. Bennett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the appointment by the
people of the justices of the levy courts in the several counties of this state; which was read the first time and
ordered to lie on the table.

The bill annulling the marriage of John C. Hatton and Elizabeth Hutton, of Somerset county, was read the
second time, and the question put, Shall the said bill pass? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as fol-
low:

be postponed until to-morrow.

The bill authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose of rebuilding Benjamin church in Fre-
derick county, formerly known by the name of Cryder's Church, was read the second time, and passed.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A further additional supplement to an act, entitled. An
act relating to negroes, and to repeal the acts of assembly therein mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr. Herbert,
Mr. Sanders, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Stansbury and Mr. Hopewell, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

FRIDAY, December 9, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Tilghman. The proceedings of
yesterday were read. Mr. Scott appears in the house.

The bill for the support of Esther Jarman, of Worcester county, the bill for the support of Anne Rickets,
the bill to increase the salary of the chief justice of the court of oyer and terminer and general gaol delivery of
Baltimore county, the bill annulling the marriage of John C. Hatton and Elizabeth Hatton, of Somerset coun-
ty, and the bill authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose of rebuilding Benjamin church, in
Frederick county, formerly known by the name of Cryder's Church, were sent to the senate by the clerk.
Mr. Belt, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act annulling the marriage of Charles
B. Tunis, and Harriet his wife, of Anne-Arundel county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.

A petition from Josias Carvil Hall, of Harford county, praying that a law passed last session authorising
road through his land may be repealed, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Streett, Mr. Davis and Mr.
Sanders, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from John Keough, stating that he was wounded in the revolutionary army, and praying some re-
lief, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Bowles, Mr. Belt and Mr. P. Stuart, to consider and report
thereon.
