Which was read;
A petition from Samuel Sargeant, of Baltimore county, praying for a divorce, was preferred and read; and,
on motion, the question put, That the same be referred to a committee? Resolved in the affirmative.
ORDERED, That Mr. Little, Mr. Stone and Mr. T. Dorsey, be a committee to consider and report thereon.
Mr. T. Dorsey, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
THE committee appointed on the petition of Samuel Sargeant beg leave to report, that the prayer of said
petition ought not to be granted, and that the petitioner have leave to withdraw his petition.

Gentlemen of the Senate
WE have received your message proposing to go into an election for governor this day at 12 o'clock, and
assent thereto. We have put no other gentleman in nomination in addition to Robert Wright, Esquire. Mr.
Little and Mr. Clement Dorsey are appointed on the part of this house to join the gentlemen named by you to
count the ballots.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, praying commissioners to be appointed to review and
lay out a public road leading from the public road from Belle-Air to Havre-de-Grace to a fishery and landing,
known by the name of Barnes's Fishery and Landing, on Susquehanna, was preferred, read, and referred to
Mr. Davis, Mr. T. Dorsey and Mr. Forwood, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from William Howell, and others, of Caecil county, praying a confirmation of the will of Arthur
M'Dade, an alien, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. T. Moffit, Mr. Porter and Mr. Mitchell, to con--
sider and report thereon.
Mr. Steuart, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Susanna Beamer, of the city of Baltimore, report, '
that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that the prayer thereof ought not to be
granted, and that the said petitioner have leave to withdraw her petition.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, praying commissioners to be appointed to review a road
beginning at the mouth of Patrick. Smith's lane, where the Baltimore road crosses the York road, and running
thence sixty-nine perches, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Streett, Mr. Ayres and Mr. Davis, to con-
sider and report thereon.
Mr. T. Dorsey, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to ratify and confirm the
marriage articles. of Ely Dorsey, of Ely, of Frederick county, and Araminta his wife; which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.
The clerk of the senate delivers a communication from the executive, enclosing the reports of the armourers of
this state; also a letter from the governor of New-Jersey, accompanied by a resolution of the general assembly
of that state, declining to assent to the amendments to the constitution proposed by the states of Pennsylvania,
Kentucky and Georgia, to prevent the extension of the judiciary power " to controversies between citizens of
different states, to controversies between citizens of the same sure claiming lands under grants from different-
states, and to controversies between citizens at a state and citizens of a foreign state; " also a letter from the
governor of the state of Delaware, enclosing resolutions of the legislature of that state, approving of said
amendment; which were read.
ORDERED, That so much of the foregoing communication as relate to the arms and ammunition of the state
be referred to the committee appointed to bring in a bill to regulate and discipline the militia of this state.
ORDERED, That the communications from the governors of New Jersey and Delaware be referred to Mr..
Bruce, Mr. Kerr, Mr. T. DorseyT Mr. J. E. Spencer and Mr. W. H. Brown, to consider and report thereon.
A memorial from sundry stockholders, of the Farmers Bank of Maryland, and others, citizens of Frederick
county, praying an act may pass authorising said bank to extend a branch to Frederick-town, and a memorial
from the president and directors of said bank, joining in the same prayer, were preferred and read, and the house
proceeded to ballot for a committee to consider and report, thereon; the ballots being deposited in the ballot
box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that Mr. Kuhn, Mr.
Kerr, Mr. Blake, Mr. Bruce, Mr. Holbrook, Mr. C. Dorsey and Mr. Shaaff, were elected.
The house having qualified agreeably to the constitution and form of government, proceeded to the choice of
a governor, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after
sometime returned and reported, that Robert Wright, Esquire, had a majority of votes. Whereupon
RESOLVED, That Robert Wright, Esquire, be, and he is hereby declared to be, governor of the state of Maryland
