Bailey, late sheriff and collector or Baltimore county, to complete his collection, and for other purposes; which
was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On motion. That leave be given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to tax bank stock, the previous question
was called for and put,. That the said question be now put? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as

The house proceeded co ballot for a committee to prepare and bring in the same; the ballots being deposited
in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that Mr.
Watts, Mr. Downey Mr. Smoot, Mr. Little and Mr. Davis, were elected

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message

By the SENATE, December 8, 1806.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates,

WE have reconsidered the bill, entitled, An act authorising the justices of the orphans court to take sheriffs
bonds, and have agreed to recede from our amendment.

By order, T. ROGERS, clk.
Which was read.

Also the bill authorising the justices of the orphans court to take sheriffs bonds, endorsed " the amendment
receded from. " Ordered to be engrossed. The bill for the relief of George Washington Sykes, of Calvert
county, endorsed " will not pass. " The bill to incorporate the stockholders of the Mechanics Bank of Balti-
more, the bill supplementary to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate the stockholders in the Union Bank of
Maryland, the supplement to an act, entitled,. An act to alter the mode of collecting the county tax in Harford
county, and the bill authorising a lottery for raising a sum of money for the rector and vestry of Saint-Thomas's
parish, in Baltimore county, severally endorsed " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. The resolution relative
to the repairs of the senate chamber and room of the house of delegates, endorsed " assented to. " And the
following message:

By the SENATE, December 8, 1806,
Gentleman of the House of Delegates

YOUR message of the 5th instant, proposing a joint committee on the subject therein mentioned, has had
our serious consideration, and as we do not perceive the. advantages that would result from a conference there-
on, we beg leave to decline the same.

Which was read.

Mr. Carroll, from the committee, delivers ro the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of Montgomery county, praying
that the road, which by an act of the last session of assembly, was directed to be opened from Barnesville, in
Montgomery county, to Zachariah Maccubbin's mill, and thence to intersect the main road leading from Frede-
rick-town to George-town, at or near Log-town, might be opened by those immediately interested, and not at
the expence of the county at large, have given the same all due consideration, and beg leave to report, that
whereas by the act of November session, one thousand eight hundred and five, entitled, An act to open a road
from. Barnesville,: in Montgomery county, to Zachariah Maccubbins's mill, and thence to intersect the main
