signated" in the 12th clause? Determined in the negative.
On motion, the. question was put, That the following clause be stricken out? viz. " And be it enacted, that
the judge or judges of the respective elections may grant a permit or licence to the person or persons at whose
house the same may be held, to sell and retail spirituous liquors on the day of the election, provided such per-
son or persons will accept of such permit or licence as a compensation fer holding of the election at his or their
house. " Resolved in the affirmative.
The bill being read throughout, the question was put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill to. lay out and make a public road from William Pyles's saw mill on
Deer creek, in Harford county, the further supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate companies to
make several turnpike roads through Baltimore county, and for other purposes, and the bill to authorise the
drawing of a lottery for the benefit of Saint-Mary's college in Baltimore county, severally endorsed, " will pass
with the proposed amendment; " which amendments were read, agreed to, and the bills ordered to be engrossed.
The supplement to an act, entitled, An act authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for repairing Shrews-
bury church, in Kent county, the bill to amend and make conveniently passable the public road leading from the
lands of Mrs. Dennison to the upper ferry in the town of Havre-de-Gace, in Harford county, the bill to autho-
rise the drawing of a lottery within the city of Baltimore for the purpose therein mentioned, the bill for the
relief of John R. Caldwell, of the city of Baltimore, and the bill authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money
for the purpose of rebuilding the steeple of the German reformed church in Frederick county, severally en-
dorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. And the bill to declare what shall be evidence in certain cases
therein mentioned, endorsed, " will not pass. "
The bill to enlarge the powers of the levy court of Baltimore county, and for other purposes, the bill to re-
strain the evil practices of certain persons within this state, the bill to reduce into one the several acts of as-
sembly respecting elections, and to regulate said elections, and the resolutions in favour of Jesse Jarrett, were
sent to the senate by the clerk.
A petition from Anna Maria Smyth, of the city of Washington, praying that the legislature would direct the
auditor-general to liquidate the account and ascertain the balance due to the representatives of major Thomas
Smyth, and that the same be paid to such person as shall be legally authorised to receive it, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. Scott, Mr. Stuart, MT. Chapman, Mr. Sudler and Mr. Montgomery, to consider and
report thereon.
The clerk of the senate delivers the bill to authorise a lottery to raise a sum of money for building a bridge
over a branch of Patuxent river at or near the mill of John Crow, and the bill authorising a lottery to raise a
sum of money to purchase a fire engine, and to purchase ground and build a school-house, in Rockville, in
Montgomery county, severally endorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. And the bill to authorise a
lottery in Frederick-town, in Frederick county, endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amendments; " which
amendments were read the first and second time by especial order, agreed to, and the bill ordered to be
engrossed.
Mr. Stephen, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the memorial of John Kilty, of the city of Annapolis, report, that
they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that the work, entitled, The Landholder's
Assistant, and Land-office Guide, now compiling by your memorialist, will be productive of the greatest public
utility, if executed in that perfect manner the talents and industry of its author assure your committee it will
be completed; they therefore submit the following resolutions:
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed to subscribe,
on the part of this state, for one hundred copies of The Landholder's Assistant, and Land-office Guide, now
compiling by John Kilty, and when the said work shall be completed, to pay the amount thereof out of any un-
appropriated money in the treasury of the state.
RESOLVED, That the governor and council cause the said books to be transmitted to the several officers here-
in after mentioned, viz. to each judge of the county courts one copy, to each county clerk, for the use of the
court while in session, two copies, one copy to the judge of the land-office for the eastern shore, one copy to the
register of the land-office for the eastern shore, to each orphans court two copies, to each court of appeals one
copy, to the court of chancery one copy, to the clerk of the house of delegates two copies, and to the clerk of
the senate one copy, for the use of the general assembly.
RESOLVED, That the said John Kilty be permitted by the keepers of the records of the late general court and
court of appeals to have access thereto, in order to take extracts or copies therefrom, to aid him in the
compilation of the above work, and also to the said records after a clerk shall be appointed.
