nor immediately. No person is put in nomination by us in addition to Robert Bowie, Esquire. Mr. Lloyd
and Mr. Chapman are appointed by this house to join the gentlemen appointed by you to examine the
ballots.

By order, J. BREWER, clk.

The house having qualified agreeably to the constitution and form of government, proceeded to the choice of
a governor, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after
sometime returned and reported that Robert Bowie, Esquire, had a majority of votes.

Whereupon RESOLVED, That Robert Bowie, Esquire, be, and he is hereby declared to be, governor of the
state of Maryland.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to settle and ascertain the salary of the members
of the council for the ensuing year. ORDERED, That Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Stephen and Mr. Dickinson, be
a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Henry Neale and Mr. William Hebb, delegates returned for Saint-Mary's county, appeared, and after
qualifying in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and taking an oath to support
the constitution of the United States, took their seats in the house.

The following message being prepared, was read, agreed to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES, November 11, 1805.
GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,

THE honourable Robert Bowie, Esquire, having been elected governor of the state, of Maryland, we have
appointed Mr. Stephen and Mr. Stuart, jointly with such gentlemen as shall be named by your house, to wait
upon the governor and request his attendance in the senate room to qualify according to the constitution and
form of government.

By order, J. BREWER, clk.

Mr. Montgomery, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to settle and ascertain
the salary of members of the council for the ensuing year; which was read the first and second time by especial
order, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message:

BY THE SENATE, November 11, 1805.
GENTLEMEN or THE HOUSE or DELEGATES,

WE have appointed Mr. Christie and Mr. Johnson, in conjunction with the gentlemen named by you, to wait
on the governor elect, for the purpose of requesting his attendance in the senate room to qualify agreeably to
the constitution and form of government.

Which was read.

Mr. Houston and Mr. Thomas from the senate, acquaint the speaker that the governor elect is attending in
the senate room, and the senate requests his attendance, with the members of the house of delegates, in the
senate room, to see the governor qualified.

The speaker lett the chair, and, attended by the members of this house, went to the senate room, where his
excellency qualified in the presence of both houses, by subscribing a declaration of his belief in the Christian

religion, by taking the several oaths required by the constitution and form of government, the oath of office di-

rected by act of assembly, and by taking the oath to support the constitution of the United States.
The speaker, attended by the members of this house, returned and resumed the chair.
The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY, November 12, 1805.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Petitions from George Washington Sykes, of Calvert county, John R. Caldwell, of the city of Baltimore, and.
John Sanders, of Saint-Mary's county, praying acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the

committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Montgomery county, stating, that they labour under great inconve-
nience for want of a road from Barnsville, (on the road leading from the mouth of Monocacy to Baltimore, ) to
Log-town, (on the road leading from Frederick-town to George town, ) and praying that a law may pass to lay
out and open the same, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Linthicum, Mr. Watts and Mr. Carroll, to
consider and report thereon.

A petition from William James Turner, of Frederick county, praying an act of insolvency, was preferred,

read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

A petition from the trustees of Bethel congregation, in Harford county, stating, that they purchased three
acres of land from the state, on which they have erected a meeting-house, fixed a burying, ground, &c. and ap-
