or persons or body corporate, against whose goods and
chattels such writ shall have issued, may have or be enti-
tled to in the capital, or joint stock of any corporation or
corporations, or in the debt of any corporation or corpora-
tions, transferable upon the books of such corporation or

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
any sheriff or coroner, or other officer, to whom any such
writ may have been directed, upon being instructed to lay
such attachment or execution upon any of the property in
the first section mentioned, to deliver to the president or
other chief officer of every such corporation or leave at the
banking room, office or place of business, of every such
corporation, a notice in writing, directed to such corpora-
tion, or the chief officer thereof, setting forth in substance,
that by virtue of a writ or writs of attachment, or fieri faci-
as, issued out of court to him directed, he hath seized and
taken all the interest of —— , in the capital stock of such
corporation (or in the debt of such corporation transferable
on the books thereof) at the suit of —— ; and such sheriff or
coroner, or other officer, shall retain in his own hands and

randum endorsed thereon, of the time, place and manner
of delivering the said notice, and shall in his return refer
to the said copy and memorandum, and make them
part of his return.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That at any time after the
service as aforesaid, of any such notice, such sheriff or co-
roner or other officer, may require the president or any
other officer, of any corporation upon which such notice
may have been served, to certify to him in writing, the
number of shares of the capital joint stock, of such corpo-
ration, and the amount of debt transferable on the books
of such corporation which were standing in the name of
the person or persons, or body corporate, whose interest in
the joint stock or debt of such corporation is mentioned in

officer so required, shall refuse or neglect for twenty-four
