March Court 1761 76 Jones become a Servant for Seven Years for Such Inordinate Copulation and that the Issue of the afd. Keturah Jones and begot by the Copulation afd. become a Servant untill it Arrive at the Age of thirty One Years Whereupon it is Ordered by the Court that the Sheriff to witt John Dennis Gent. Immediately Sell the Child of the afd. Keturah Jones begot by the Copulation Afd. to the highest Bidder for the term of thirty One Years And that he make Report thereof to the Court &c. And afterwards in the Same Court Came the afd. Sheriff and Returned that he by Virtue of the order afd. had Sold the he being the highest bidder Issue of the afd. Keturah Jones and begot by the Copulation afd. to William Warwick ^ for the Quantity of thirty Six pounds of tobacco which he Service and that the Said William Warwick Return her to the Sheriff of the County of Somerset or to the Next County Court that Shall happen after her now Servitude Expire in order to be Sold for the Inordinate Copulation afd. and to Reimburst the County the Expences of the Prosecution afd. &c.
in Maryland the tenth day of July in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Twenty Nine to witt on the twenty first day of December in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty with force and Arms at the Parish afd. in the County afd. the Store house of a Certain Stephen Garland at the parish of Coventry in the County afd. Situated Feloniously did break and Enter and One White Linnen Shirt of the Value of Two Shillings, One Oznabrige Bag of the Value of Six pence two pieces of Brown Shalloon of the Value of Ten Shillings Each piece one piece of Brown Fustin of the Value of Ten Shillings Six yards of Russia Drab of the Value of five Shillings ten Yards of Irish White Linnen of the Value of Ten Shillings Eight Yards of Course White Linnen of One Shilling Each Yard Eight Yards of Corse Sheeting of the Value of One Shilling Each Yard One Dozen of Checked Linnen Handkerchiefs of the Value of One Shilling Each Handkerchief four papers of Pinns of the Value of Six pence Each paper four yards of Cotton Check Linnen of the Value of One Shilling Each yard Two Dozen of Ferit Laces of the Value of One penny Each Lace Eight Dozen of White Vest Wire Buttons of the Value of four pence Each Dozen thirteen Yards of Silk poplin of the Value of One Shilling Each yard four Caster hatts of the Value of five Shillings Each Hatt Two Felt Hatts of the Value of One Shilling Each Hatt and Six Yards of Welch Cotton of the Value of One Shilling Each Yard of the goods and Chattles of the afd. Stephen Garland in the Same Store house then and there being found then and there feloniously did Steal take and Carry away Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord Propry that now is his good Rule and Government and Against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and provided and So forth Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should Take the afd. Negro Liverpool if &c. to Answer &c. And now to witt at a Court of his Lordship held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of March Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty One before the Justices thereof Came the afd. Negro Liverpool in his proper person According to A Certain Recognizance by his Security in that part before Acknowledged and being brought to the barr is Committed to the Sheriff of the County afd. and the Said Negro Liverpool forthwith Concerning the Premisses in the Said Indictment Above Specified and Charged on him as above being Asked how he of the felony afd. will thereof Acquit himself the Said Negro Liverpool Stands Mute and will not Answer Whereupon it is Required of the Said Negro Liverpool if he hath or knows Any thing to Say for himself why the Court here Ought not to proceed to Judgment and Execution Against him According to Law And Whereupon the Said Negro Liverpool by Littelton Dennis Gent. Attorney at Law prays the Benefit of Clergy in this part to be Allowed unto the Said Negro Liverpool Therefore it is Considered that the afd. Negro Liverpool be with the Letter T burn in the Left hand on the Brawn of the thum ^ with a hot Iron According to the form of the Statute in Such Case made and provided &c. And Whereupon the Said Negro Liverpool then and there was burnt in the Left hand on the Brawn of the thum with the Letter T with a hot Iron According to the Judgment Rendred &c. Thereupon it is ordered by the Court that the afd. Negro Liverpool Return to his masters Service &c.
