To the Worshipfull the Justices of Somerset County Mathias Costen Humbly Sheweth that he in |

Right of his Intermarriage with Abigal Costen Late Abigal Persons is possessed of two tracts of |
Land the One Called Second Choice and the other Called Good Luck the boundaries whereof are Precarious and
Very Much decayed and the Evidences who are able to prove the Same Antient and infirm your petitioner therefore
humbly prays your Worships to Grant him a Commission and Appoint Commissioners in Order to Examine Evidences
to perpetuate the bounds of the afd. tracts of Land or of Any other Lands on which they may depend and Your
Petitioner as in duty bound will pray Mathias Costen
Whereupon Came here into Court the afd. Petitioner in his proper Person and thereupon the Petition
afd. being Read and heard and fully understood it is Considered by the Court here that a Commission Issue to the
afd. Mathias Costen as by the Petition afd. is praid and that Louther Dashiell, Thomas Dashiell, John
Adams and Benjn Cottman of Somerset County Gent be Commissioners and Execute the Same Commission
According to Act of Assembly in Such Case provided &c
His Lordships Commission of the peace being Produced here in Court was Openly Read as follows Vizt
Frederick Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron
of Baltemore &c. To Bejamin Tasker, Charles Hammond, Samuel Chamberlain, Phillip Thomas, Edward
Lloyd, Richard Lee, Benedict Calvert, Robert Jenkins Henry, Daniel Dulany, Stephen Bordly, John
Ridout and Charles Goldsborough Esqrs. Isaac Handy, Sampson Wheatly, Joseph Gilliss, Ephraim Wilson,
Samuel Adams, William Winder, Ephraim King, George Gale Jur. Thomas Jones, John Dennis Senr. and Thomas
Holbrook of Somerset County Gentlemen Greeting know ye that we have Assigned You and Every of you
Joyntly and Severally our Justices to keep our peace within our County of Somerset and to do Equal Law and
Right to all the Kings Subjects Rich and Poor According to the Laws Customs and direction of the Acts of
Assembly of this province So far forth as they provide and where they are Silent According to the Laws
Statutes and Reasonable Customs of England as used and practiced within this Province for the
Conservation of the peace and Quiet Rule and Government of the Kings Subjects within our Said County
And to Chastise and Punish all or Any person or persons offending Against the Said Acts Laws Statutes
And Customs or Any of them According to the directions thereof and to Call before you or Any of You all those
who in our County afd. Shall threaten to do any bodily Harm to Any of the Kings Subjects or to burn their
houses or otherwise break our peace and Misbehave themselves to find Sufficient Security of the peace and
Good behaviour to us and the Said Subjects and if they Shall Refuse to find Such Security that then
you Cause them to be Committed into Safe Custody untill they Shall be delivered by due Course of Law from
thence Also we have Assigned you and Every three or More of You of whom we will you the Said Benjamin
Tasker, Charles Hammond Samuel Chamberlain Phillip Thomas Edward Lloyd Richard Lee Benedict Calvert
Robert Jenkins Henry, Daniel Dulany, Stephen Bordly, John Ridout Charles Goldsborough, Isaac Handy
Sampson Wheatly, Joseph Gillis, Ephraim Wilson and Samuel Adams or one of You always to be one our
Justices to Enquire by the Oaths of Good and Lawfull men of our County afd. by whom the truth of the Premisses
may be the better known of all and all Manner of felonies Petty Treasons Murders Rapes upon White women
Wilfull Burning of Any Dwelling house or Outhouse Contiguous to and used with Any Dwelling house every
Other Outhouse wherein there Shall be Any person or Any Goods or Merchandizes Tobacco Indian Corn or fodder
And all other Capital Offences done or perpetrated by Any Negro or Other Slave and Likewise all Consulting
Advising and Conspiring of Negros and Other Slaves to Rebel or Raise Any Insurrection or to Murder
or Poison Any Person or to Ravish Any White Woman or to Attempt to burn Any Dwelling house or
