March Court 1762 131 of and upon the Premisses and So forth Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should Take the Said Abigal Johnson if &c. to Answer &c And now to witt at a Court of his Lordship held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of March being the Sixteenth day of the Same Month Anno Dom. 1762 before the Justices thereof Came the afd. Abigal Johnson in her proper person and had a hearing of the Information afd. Saith that She Cannot deny but that She is Guilty of the premisses in the Information afd. above upon her Imposed in Manner and form as by the Information afd. Above Against her Supposed and Maketh Oath that Hector a Negro Man Slave of Thos. Williams is the father of the Child afd. &c Whereupon all and Singular the Premisses being Seen and by the Court fully understood it is Considered by the Court here that for as much as there is due to the County of Somerset Seven Years Service from Such persons as are Guilty of Inordinate Copulation and Likewise the Issue begot by Such Copulation to become a Servant untill it arrive at the Age of thirty One Years, Whereupon it is further Considered that the afd. Abigal Johnson become a Servant for Seven Years for Such Copulation afd. And that David the Issue of the afd. Abigal and begot by the Copulation afd. become a Servant untill it Arrive at the Age of thirty One Years &c. Whereupon it is Ordered by the Court here that the afd. Abigal Johnson Return to her Master Andrew Francis Chaney Service and that the Said Chaney Return her to the Justices of Somerset County Court Immediately after her now Servitude Expire in order to be Sold for the Copulation afd. Thereupon the Court Made Sale of David the Issue of the afd. Abigal and begot by the Copulation afd. unto Andrew Francis Cheney for the term of thirty One Years to Commence from the time of his Birth (he being three Months old) for the Sum of fifty Shillings Curt Money which he paid to the Sheriff for the use of the County &c.
Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that the afd. Neh: King if he Should be found in his Bailywick that all Excuses Set Apart he be And Appear before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset now Sitting at Princes Ann Town this Instant March to Answer the Petition afd. And afterwards in the afd. Court Came as well the afd. Complainant as the afd. Deft. and the Petition afd. being Read and Heard and fully understood and the Allegations of Both Parties being Likewise heard it is Considered by the Court here that the Indenture whereby the afd. Neh. King held the afd. John Macomb as a Servant be Null and of no force and not Sufficient to hold the Said Macomb as a Servant and that the Said Macomb be discharged from the Service of the afd. Neh. King &c.
You to be our Commissioners to Examine Evidences on behalf of a Certain William Adams of the County afd. in Relation to the bounds of a tract of Land Called Eversham or the bounds of Any other Land on which the Same may depend We therefore Require you or Any three or two of You at Some and Place to You or Any three or two of You it Shall Seem Convenient you meet on the afd. Land Called Eversham or Any other Land on which the Same may depend You first haveing taken Your Oaths on the holy Evangels of Almighty God and there Cause to Come before you or any three or two of you all Such Evidences as Shall be to You or any three or two of you Nominated by the Said Complainant or Defendant and that you or Any three or two of You Examine them |
