missioned officers shall be made through the Adjutant Gene-
ral, and at least sixty days prior to the regular days ap-
pointed in this act for the inspection, drill, or making any
annual enrolment or draught, of the district militia or uni-
form corps, to which such officer belonged, except in cases
of removal; anJ that otherwise no officer shall be consider-
ed as having resigned, except those who shall neglect to re-

port themselves as directed in the fourth section of this act;
and every officer who may resign, shall immediately notify
the commanding officer of his company, battalion, squad-
ron, regiment or brigade, as the case may be, of his resig-
