CHAP. 32.

compensation and dismissal, of all such officers, agents, la-
bourers and servants, as they shall deem necessary; to pro-
vide for making all contracts, agreements and deeds, in
the name and on behaif of the corporation, and for using
the corporate seal thereof; and to make all such by-laws,
orders, ordinances and regulations, which shall be necessa-
ry for the exercise and use of the said powers, rights and
privileges, and not inconsistent with law, and the same
from lime to time to alter or repeal.

Shares to the deem-
ed personal estate

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the shares of the capital
stock of the said company shall be deemed personal estate,
and when any person shall be divested of all his stock by
transfer or otherwise, he shall cease to be a member of the
said corporation, and all the said capital stock, and all the
estate and property, real and personal, claims and effects, of
the corporation, shall be bound and answerable for any con-
tracts or engagements made, or liability incurred by or un-
der the authority of the said corporation, or its agents, for
its use or account; and the debits due by this company shall
at no time exceed one half of the amount of capital actual-
ly paid in; and in case of insolvency, if on investigation,
debits exceeding one half of such cap'ital shall at any time
appear to have existed, then the stockholders shall be seve-
rally liable in their individual capacities, to make good any
deficiency in proportion to the amount of stock held by each
respectively, at the time of contracting said debits.

Provide school

hours

Sec. 6. And be. it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the said company to provide a good and convenient school-
house, where the children employed in their service may
be instructed in reading, writing and arithmetic.

State may levy tax

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contain-
ed shall be construed in anywise to affect the right of the
legislature to levy a tax upon the real and personal property
of said company, similar to any tax which may be imposed
on the real and personal property within this state.

Duration

Sec. 8. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue
in force until the end of the year eighteen hundred and six-
ty, and to the end of the next session of the general assem-
bly which shall happen thereafter.

CHAP. XXXIII.

Passed Feb 13,1829

An Act to incorporate the Master and Wardens of Pat-
mos Lodge, Number seventy, of Free and Accepted
Masons, and for other purposes.

Preamble

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by
the petition of the members of Patmos Lodge, number se-
venty, of Free and Accepted Masons, that they have ob-
tained a leasehold interest in a lot of ground in Baltimore
