CHAP. CLXVII.

n Act relating to certain unsubscribed Stock reserved

CHAP. 107.

for the State in the Commercial and Farmers Bank
of Baltimore.

Passed Mar 12,1829

See. I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the president and directors of the Commer-
cial and Farmers Bank of Baltimore, be and they are here-
by authorised, on or before the first day of May next, to
pay and invest, for the state's use, upon one hundred and
fifty shares of the stock of said bank reserved for the state,
the sum of five thousand dollars; and that upon the said pay-
ment and investment, the right of the state to appoint di-
rectors, or any director of said bank, shall cease and be-
come void, and the same in that event is hereby declared to
be relinquished, and shall not be exercised after the com-
pletion of said payment, any act or resolution of the gene-

ral assembly to the contrary notwithstanding; Provided,
that in all elections of directors, or other meetings of the
stockholders of the said bank, which may thereafter take
place, the treasurer, for the time being of the western shore
of Maryland, shall be entitled, in proper person or by
proxy, to vote on behalf of the state, and of the several
counties which shall, at any such election or meeting, own
any shares of the capital stock of the said bank, so many
votes as individual stockholders night be entitled to vote on
the same number of shares; Provided also, that the presen
directors on the part of the state in the said bank shall con-
tinue to hold their seals, and act as such, until the first day
of January next.

CHAP. CLXVIII.

An Act for the relief of sundry Poor Persons in the se-
veral Counties therein mentioned.

Passed Mar 12, 1829

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the levy courts, or county commissioners, as
the case may be, of Montgomery, Prince-George's, Wor-
cester, Caroline, Harford, Anne-Arundel, Cecil, Baltimore,
Talbot, Frederick, and Charles counties, be and they are
hereby severally authorised, directed and empowered, at
their annual meeting, so long as they shall see cause so to
do, except hereinafter mentioned, to assess and levy on the
assessable property of said counties, for the use of the se-
veral persons hereinafter mentioned, any money, not exceed
ing the several sums annexed to their respective names, a
their discretion, viz. In Montgomery county, for Mary Ann
Waters, thirty dollars; for Rebecca Duly, twenty dollars; for
Joseph Ridgaway, thirty dollars, payable to John A. How
