the official journal of the town, of in a county newspaper, and
the final adoption of the detailed estimate shall thereby be and,
become the appropriation for the respective purposes as
therein stated, and the Council shall not audit nor shall the
clerk draw or sign any check or order in payment of any
claim or the Mayor countersign same, unless the appropriation
therefor shall have been duly made in accordance with this
Act. The Council shall annually prepare and publish not later
than the first day of May in the same manner as is above pro-
vided for the publication of the detailed estimate of the liabili-
ties and expenditures, a parallel statement of the appropria-
tion and the expenditures under said appropriations of the
funds of the corporation.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from
the first day of June, in the year 1920.

CHAPTER 455.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 227
of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title '' ADe-
gany County," sub-title "Sheriff," as the same were
enacted by Chapter 30, Acts of 1918.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 227 of Article 1 of the Code of Public
Local Laws, title "Allegany County," sub-title "Sheriff," as
the same was enacted by the Acts of 1902 and 1904, Chapters
202 and 213, and Chapter 30 of the Acts of 1918, be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so
as to read as follows:

227. The County Commissioners for Allegany County shall
allow the Sheriff of Allegany County each year: First—A
sum not exceeding three thousand six hundred dollars, for two
deputies at an annual salary of one thousand eight hundred
dollars each; Second—A sum not exceeding six hundred dol-
lars a year for a cook to the jail. Third—The actual railroad
charges of the Sheriff and the several Deputies Sheriff and the
actual cost of railroad tickets of the prisoners necessary for
the conveyance of said prisoners. Fourth—A reasonable sum
not exceeding twenty cents per person summoned by the Cir-
cuit Court for Allegany County to testify in criminal cases
in said Court during the trial of such cases in the term for
