of fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00), which said annual
salary of fifteen hundred dollars is to be in lien of all fees
and charges in criminal cases to which he may be entitled by
law, but said annual salary of fifteen hundred dollars shall not
include the amount he is now or may hereafter be allowed
by law for the board and keeping of any prisoner or prisoners
confined in the county jail of Queen Anne's County, nor the
annual allowance for fuel and light for the comfort and bene-
fit of said prisoner or prisoners confined in the county jail as
is now allowed by law, nor the actual car fare or steamboat
fare or travelling expenses of the Sheriff himself and that of
the prisoner or prisoners whom he may be required to take or
carry out of the limits of Queen Anne's County or
for whom he may have to go outside of the limits
of Queen Anne's County for; the Sheriff shall collect all fees
and charges to which he may be entitled by law in criminal
cases, and exercise all powers conferred upon him by law to
enforce the collection of the said fees in criminal cases, and
shall at the end of the months of March, June, September and
December during each year of his term of office make a sworn
report of the collection of all the fees in all criminal cases
to the County Commissioners of Queen Anne's County in such
form as said County Commissioners may direct, and pay over
all of the said collected fees to the County Commissioners of
Queen Anne's County at the end of the said months of March,
June, September and December in each and every year of his
term of office, and whenever any Sheriff of said county shall
retire from said office from any cause whatsoever leaving un-
collected any fees and charges in any criminal case lawfully
payable to him, his successor in said office shall collect and pay
over the said fees to the said County Commissioners, and the
Sheriff of Queen Anne's County shall be required to keep in
his office such a book or books as may be required to contain
an accurate and full official account and record of all the fees
and charges to be collected by him, as well as those which shall
have been collected and each and every one of his settlements
with the said County Commissioners, and all of such books
shall remain in the Sheriff's office after the expiration of his
term of office or upon his vacating his said office for any rea-
son whatsoever, for the use of his successor in said office of
