provide for his compensation by the County Commission-
ers of Allegany, Garrett and Washington Counties in cer-
tain proportions.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Mary-
land be and they are hereby authorized and directed to appoint
an Official Court Stenographer who shall be a sworn officer
of the Courts of said Circuit, and said stenographer so ap-
pointed shall receive a salary of two thousand ($2,000.00) dol-
lars per annum from the time of his or her appointment and
qualification, to be paid in equal, monthly installments as fol-
lows: The County Commissioners of Allegany County shall
levy and pay the sum of one thousand ($1,000.00) dollars
thereof; the County Commissioners of Washington County
shall levy and pay the sum of seven hundred ($700.00) dollars
thereof, and the County Commissioners of Garrett County
shall levy and pay the sum of three hundred ($300.00) dollars
thereof. It shall be the duty of the County Commissioners of
each of said counties on or before the 10th day of each month
to pay to said stenographer its proportionate share of said
salary for the preceding month as hereinbefore provided, as
long as said stenographer is performing the official duties
herein provided for or until said Commissioners are notified
by the Judges of said Circuit or any of them to the contrary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the stenographer
so appointed shall be skilled in the are and practice of
stenography and typewriting, and shall hold said position until
removed by the Judges of said Circuit or a majority of them;
and in case of a vacancy in said office said Judges are author-
ized and directed to appoint a suitable person in conformity
with this Act to fill such vacancy. It shall be the duty of said
stenographer at the direction of said Court to take full
stenographic notes of all oral testimony and judicial opinions
orally delivered at the regular terms and at all trials of cases
in law or in equity of said Courts when the testimony is taken
in open Court, and any other judicial opinions or judicial
matters pertaining to the business of the Fourth Judicial Cir-
cuit, when requested by any of the Judges thereof. It shall
be the duty of said stenographer to furnish to any party to
such proceedings or his attorney promptly upon request, a
typewritten copy of the notes of testimony and judicial opin-
ions so delivered in open Court and taken down in shorthand,
