be held on the fourth Monday of Match, nineteen hundred
and twenty, shall be approved as hereinafter stated. The
provisions of this Act shall be published in full, at least three
times in each of the daily newspapers published and circulated
in Hagerstown, the first of said publications to be not less than
ten days before the time of said election. The manner of
submission shall be, that on the ballot at the regular munic-
ipal election aforesaid there shall be printed the words, "For
the extension of the terms of office of the Mayor and Council-
men for four years," with a blank square opposite at the
right, and the words "Against the extension of the term of
office of the Mayor and Councilmen for four years," with a
blank square opposite at the right, and all voters desiring to
vote for the provisions of this Act shall place a (X) mark in
the square opposite-the words "For the extension of the term
of office of the Mayor and Councilmen for four years," and
all voters desiring to vote against the provisions of this Act
shall place a cross (X) mark opposite the words "Against
the extension of the term, of the Mayor and Councilmen for
four years." If at the regular municipal election, held un-
der the provisions of this Act, a greater number of said quali-
fied voters shall vote "For the extension of the term of office
of the Mayor and Councilmen for four years" than shall vote
"Against the extension of the term of office of the Mayor and
Councilmen for four years" then the provisions of this Act
shall immediately go into effect. In case a greater number
of said qualified voters at said election, held under the pro-
visions hereof; shall vote "Against the extension of the term
of office of the Mayor and Councilmen for four years" than
"For the extension of the term of office of the Mayor and
Councilmen for four years" then and in that event this Act
shall become null and void and of no effect, and Sections 156
of Chapter 36 of the Acts of Maryland, eighteen hundred and
ninety-two, and Section 159 of the Acts of Maryland, nineteen
hundred and eighteen, shall remain in full force and effect
and the Mayor and Councilmen elected at the municipal elec-
tion of Hagerstown, on the fourth Monday of March, nine-
teen hundred and twenty, shall remain in office for the term
as herein set forth, and all the provisions of said Sections 156
and 159 of Article 22 aforesaid shall remain and be in effect
just as if this Act had not been passed.
