two for the third precinct of said Election District, and it
shall be the duty of the Governor, after the appointment of
said Justices of the Peace to select and designate one of the
Justices of the Peace so appointed for the third precinct of
the Third Election District of Talbot County, who shall be
known and designated as Police Justice, and the said Police
Justice shall have the same jurisdiction in criminal cases as
Justices of the Peace now possess and which may hereafter
be conferred upon them by and under the laws of this State,
but shall have no civil jurisdiction, but shall have jurisdiction
in and perform the duties of the Coroner; and the said Police
Justice shall have exclusive jurisdiction in and shall be re-
quired to try and determine all violations of criminal laws
and to perform all of the duties of the Coroner which shall
arise in said Election Precinct No. 3, in said Third Election
District, according to the present boundaries of said precinct,
and all violations of the ordinances of the Town of Oxford,
subject, however, to the same right of election to be tried
by a Jury, notice of which must be clearly given by the said
Police Justice to the parties before trial, and subject to the
same right of appeal as now exists under the law; provided,
however, that nothing contained in this Act shall preclude
the said Police Justice from trying criminal cases which
arise in any other precinct or district of said County if the
same shall be properly brought before him.

117N. That the said Police Justice shall receive for his
services the sum of One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars per year
or the proportionate part thereof, so long as he shall continue
to act as such Police Justice, said salary to be paid by the
County Commissioners for Talbot County in equal quarterly
installments and shall be paid in full compensation for serv-
ices required of him under this Act; and no Justice of the
Peace so selected for Police Justice shall be permitted to
charge any fee or receive any gratuity for making any com-
mitment, granting any release or for the performance of any
duty required by law in criminal cases or when acting as
coroner; but the said County Commissioners shall in no case
pay the aforesaid salary until the said Police Justice shall at
first file with the County Commissioners of Talbot County
his quarterly report, verified by oath or affirmation, account-
ing for all fines, forfeitures and penalties imposed by him
