CHAPTER 156.

CHAP. 157.

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act concerning
Crimes and Punishments, passed at November session,
eighteen hundred and nine, chapter one hundred and
thirty -eight.

1837.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act
it shall not be lawful to shave the head of any prisoner
or prisoners who are now, or shall hereafter be con-
fined in the Maryland Penitentiary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the several county courts of this State, and the
city court of Baltimore, in sentencing convicts to the

penitentiary, to sentence them for such a period as
will expire between the first day of April and the last
day of August, any thing in the laws heretofore passed
on this subject to the contrary notwithstanding.

SEC. 3. Add be it enacted, That all acts or parts of
acts contrary to, or inconsistent with the provisions of
this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 157.


An act for the benefit of the Sheriff of Queen Ann's
County.

Passed Mar. 9,
1837.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That in lieu of the sum now allowed by law for for-
ishing victuals to debtors confined in jail, it shall and
may be lawful for the Sheriff of Queen Ann's county to
ask, demand, and receive the sum of twenty five cents
per day for each and every person that may be confin-
ed in the jail of said county for debt, or who shall be
committed under the insolvent laws of this State, or for
want of special bail, the said sum to be paid in the man-
ner now prescribed by law.
