NOVEMBER COURT 1694

 

139 ~  13 November 1694 Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Capt. John Winder, James Dashiel, James Round, Samuel Hopkins, Capt. John King, Stephen Horsey

 

139 ~ Francis Jenckins makes note that Lawrence Crawford has left the County; moves he be replaced as overseer of highways by Alexander Maddux; Court so orders.

 

140 ~  Order from Governor’s Council to finish the newly started Somerset Courthouse forthwith and hold Court there; previous order from 30 July to be null and void; signed by Henry Denton, Clerk of Council.

 

140 ~  John Kirke brings John Holland, bastard son of Hannah Holland, before the Court; asks that he be apprenticed until age 21; Court approves; Kirke to give Holland a heifer at age 10 and provide him one year schooling; Holland to be of age 3 on 10 December following. 

 

140 ~  Petition of William Browne for relief; Court orders that he be given 400 lbs/tbco from next levy; similar order for Marmaduke Mister.

 

140 ~  Francis Jenckins, Pltf. vs. Lawrence Crawford, Deft. for debt of 20,000 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Jenckins, presents bond for 20,000 lbs/tbco signed 24 February 1690/1 by Crawford obligating him to accept decision of arbitrators Stephen Luffe and Thomas Newbold in dispute with Jenckins; or if arbitrators do not agree then decision to Michael Clugston as umpire; Sheriff returns original writ and enters non est inventus; Court awards attachment against the goods of Crawford, as declared.

 

141 ~  Francis Jenckins, Pltf. vs. Lawrence Crawford, Deft. for debt of 1167 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Jenckins, presents Crawford’s account from 1692 to 31 October 1693 at Manokin for various commodities; Sheriff enters non est inventus for Crawford; Court orders attachment against the goods of Crawford.

 

141 ~  Mr. Peter Dent, Pltf. vs. Lawrence Crawford, administrator for Benjamin Keizer; scieri facias for 300 lbs/tbco against Crawford; confirmed.

 

141 ~  Mr. Peter Dent, Pltf. vs. Lawrence Crawford, Deft. for debt of 1825 lbs/tbco; Sam Worthington, attorney for Peter Dent, presents Crawford’s account from 1689 to 7 April1691 listing fees for legal services; mentions cases of Richard Hill, John Lynch, John Barker, Peter Whaples, George Layfield, Francis Jenckins, Thomas Roe, Daniel Lindsey, Dr. Vigerous, Col. Browne, John Starett; Sheriff enters non est inventus for Crawford; Court orders attachment against goods of Crawford.

 

142 ~  John Barron, Pltf. vs. Lawrence Crawford, administrator of Benjamin Keizer, Deft; scieri facias from previous judgement for 200 lbs/pork; confirmed.
