172 ~ Court called three times by Cryer; Sheriff returns Grand Jury: Richard Chambers, Peter Elzey, William Wouldhave, John Browne, Jonathan Towers, Thomas Hollbrook, William Keens, Jun., William Story, William Waller, William Timons, Bernard Ramsay, Richard Wharton, Samuel Handy, Anthony Bell, John Tayler, Henry Hudson, Cornelius Morris, Robert Collier, Randall Revell, John Panter.
172 ~ Coroners and Constables called, Joseph Gray and George Wilson not appearing.
172 ~ Petition of John Parsons to be released from summons for George Layfield, not knowing the reason for it; outcome illegible.
172 ~ Petition of Edward Sudberry to be released from bond for good behavior; bond continued.
173 ~ Petition of John Hepworth to be released from bond for good behavior; granted.
173 ~ Petition of William Tisdale for items left by Richard Bright to his daughter, Anne, the petitoner’s wife, now in possessinon of others: Cornelius Ward having a breeder and Samuel Alexander having pott hooks, iron pott and six pewter spoons; Court orders Ward and Alexander appear next Court.
173 ~ Petition of Ursula Heath, widow, concerning tract called Deep in Manokin, bequeathed by John Shipway to her daughter, Mary Heath; land apparently claimed by Thomas Manlove who was in process of selling it; asks Court to inquire and have lines run to determine boundaries; Court considers that “the matter not lye before them”.
174 ~ Petition of Stephen Page to be indemnified from liabilites associated with conviction of his servant Margarett Kennedy for stealing hogs; Page says crime happened while he and his wife were in Accomac, without their involvement, but were being charged by various persons for the costs; Court rules that Page is liable.
174 ~ Petition of Thomas Williams to be released form his bond for good behavior; Court rules it be continued.
175 ~ Petition of Richard Tull to set up gates to his pasture land located near bridge on Dividing Creek; granted.
175 ~ Petition of Richard Tull, Jr. to be released from bond for good behavior; granted.
175 ~ Robert Beyer, son of Robert Beyer, deceased, brought before Court by John Roach; asks he be apprenticed until age 21; granted.
175 Petition of Cornelius Anderson for release from bond for good behavior; granted.
175 ~ Case against German Gillett of Pocomoke for contempt of Court; accused of abetting two pregnant women in avoiding punishment for bastardy; Suzannah Hazard in 1690 and Elizabeth Keble, a fugitive from Virginia; Gillett had paid off Keble’s indenture and taken her first to Virginia and then to Territories of Pennsylvania (Delaware); James Sangster Clerk of Indictments presents case; Gillett pleads not guilty; Sheriff summons Jury: James Curtis, Alexander Thomas, Lawrence Gary, James Langreen, George Goddard, William Venables, Richard Cary, Somerset Dickinson, John Gray, Thomas Gordon, Roger Odowey, William Bowden; evidences: Samuel Alexander, Walter Reed, Thomas Gillett; Jury finds no cause for indictment. 177 ~ John King asks payment for attendance for 7 days at Court; case of Thomas Porter vs. Cornelius Anderson.
177 ~ Apprentice Indenture between Germane Gillett, of Pocomoke, and Elizabeth Kottle, spinster of Pocomoke, dated 15 August 1691; Kottle to serve and abide at Gillett’s house for 3 years, be provided with food, drink & clothing; witnesses: Samuel Alexander, John Gillett.
