68 ~ [12 November 1695] Opening of November Court At a Court held for the County of Somerset in the Province of Maryland by his Mat’ies Justices of the Peace the 12th day of November in the 7th year of the reign of Sovereign Lord King William the Third over England this anno Domini 1695 Com’rs Present ~ Mr. Fra Jenkins, Mr. Ja- Dashiels, Mr Tho Dixon, Mr Matthew Scarborough, Mr Tho Newbold, Mr Sam Hopkins, Mr Geo Layfield, Mr Jas Round, Mr Edmd Howard, Capt Jno King Court Called ~ This day the Sheriff made return of the Grand Jury as followeth (viz) Richard Chambers, Rowland Beavins, Stevin Costin, Jno Franklin, John Panter, Wm Jones, John Jones, Wm Bowen, Nic. Evins, Nic. Conowelly, Alex Thomas, Jno Kellam, Miles Gray, Ja- Rawley, Wm Fausett, Sam Jones, Charles Williams, Tho. Pollett, Thomas Wilson, Charles Hall, Jno Turpin, Charles Fausett,Wm Stevenson & Teague Riggen sumon’d but exempted from serving. The foresd Grand Jury being Called did all appear, was then sworn upon the Holy Evangelists according to the form and then the Charges as usually was to them read and so was sent forth upon his Mat’ies acct. The Coroners were then Called viz Lt Coll John Winder, Mr Edmund Howard, Capt John King, Mr John Browne The Constables were then called, viz Thomas Dashiels Constable for Wiccocomico Hundred James Givan Constable forNanticoke Hundred Wm Waller Constable for Mony Hundred Edward Wheeler Constable for Manokin Hundred Wm Wilson Constable for Annimessex Hundred John Broughton Constable for Pocomoke Hundred John Purnell Constable for Mattapony Hundred Thomas Powell Constable for BogateeNorten Hundred and the Severall Constables above sd put into Court the Severall p’sons for the Court to make Choice of and the Wor’ll Court made Choice of these Several p’sons for to be Constables for this present year following (viz) John Waters Constable for Annimessex Hundred Francis Thoroughgood Constable for Pocomoke Hundred John Polke Constable for Manokin Hundred Thomas Walter Constable for Mony Hundred William Stacey Constable for Wiccocomico Hundred Thomas Larramore Constable forNanticoke Hundred Thomas Purnell Constable for BogateeNorten Hundred Alexander White Constable for Mattapony Hundred Then was read the Laws made last Assembly - Proclamation read prohibiting the Transportation of Corne Ditto Concerning p’sons leaving the Province & going to Southerd Ord’n from Assembly read impowering Justices to make rules of Court Ord’n read to return answers to Governor & how business was dispatched in obedience to Ord’n formerly directed relating to Loyalls Order read Concerning any Justices dissent in Court Order read concerning the Vestrymen to give acct of total proceedings |
