sonable compensation to be fixed at the time of appointment
by the Mayor or person appointing. The said regular police-
man shall be entitled to have taxed in each cause for their serv-
ices, by the Justice of the Peace, the same fees as constables
are entitled to receive for same services, which fees shall be
retained by the Justice of the Peace, reported and turned over
to the Clerk of the Council, for deposit to the credit of the
City and to be disposed of by the Mayor and Council, as they
may deem best.
Section 76. Immediately after the levy is made by the
Council, in each year, the Collector shall give notice of the
making of the levy, in one or more newspapers, published in
said City. He shall make out and mail or deliver in person, to
each taxpayer, or his agent, a bill or account of the taxes due
by him, giving the amount of real or personal property, with
which he is assessed, the rate of taxation and amount of taxes
due, and the date from which they will bear interest. If the
owner of sufficient personal property cannot be found, notice
may be left with his authorized or recognized agent if any.
If there be real property, the Collector shall attach the afore-
said bill or account, to a board or other object standing on a
conspicuous part of said real estate assessed to said owner and
if no real estate he shall post said notice as near as may to the
place where said owner last resided. He shall keep a copy of
the notice and shall make a memorandum thereon of the date
of mailing, delivering or posting of said notice, as the case may
be, which memorandum shall be Prima facie evidence of the
mailing, delivery or posting of same.
Section 78. When the collector shall sell any real estate
under this Act he shall report the sale, with the proceedings
relating thereto, to the Circuit Court for Somerset County
sitting in equity, whereupon said court shall pass an order nisi
thereon, which order nisi shall be published for not less than
three successive weeks in some newspaper published in the City
of Crisfield at least one month before final ratification of said
sale warning the party to whom said property is assessed, and
all persons interested in said property, to appear in said court
on some certain day to be named therein and show cause, if
any they have, why said sale should not be ratified, and for
hearing said objections and ratifying such sale said court shall
be deemed always open, as in equity cases. On hearing and
considering, or if no objections are filed, the said court, if it
is satisfied that the requirements of this Act have been sub-
