ing before said Board when first ordered. The Board so ap-
pointed shall be named for a specified term of service. The
members of said Board, other than the recorder, shall be paid
the sum of $100. 00 each per annum, for all services in con-
nection with such Board, and the recorder thereof shall be paid
the sum of $200. 00 per annum for all services in connection
with said Board.
Section XXVII. Every officer duly commissioned shall,
within ten days after his commission is tendered him, or with-
in ten days after he shall have been notified personally or by
mail that the same is held in readiness for him by a superior
officer, take and subscribe to the oath of office required by the
laws of this State and of the United States. Such oath shall
be taken and subscribed to before an officer authorized by law
to administer an oath, or some general or field officer who has
taken the oath himself and who is hereby authorized to ad-
minister the same. In case of neglect or refusal to take and
subscribe to such oath within the time mentioned, such com-
mission shall be cancelled by the Governor and a new appoint-
ment shall be made.
Section XXVIII. Officers shall take rank from the date of
commissions; an officer who has served in the same grade con-
tinuously, upon re-appointment, shall take rank from the date
of his first commission in the grade.
Section XXIX. The duties assigned to an officer by title
in this Act shall devolve, in case of absence or disability to
command of the officer named, upon the line officer next in
rank, except as otherwise provided in this Article.
Section XXX. A commissioned officer shall not be removed
from office without his consent, except by the sentence of a
general court-martial or as provided in this Article.
Section XXXI. Commissions of officers may be vacated
upon resignation, absence without leave for three months, upon
the recommendation of an efficiency board, or pursuant to sen-
tence of a court-martial, or upon the mustering out or dis-
bandment of his organization.
Section XXXH. A commissioned officer tendering his
resignation before having served five years, if the Governor
shall accept it, shall receive an honorable discharge. If he has
served five years or more he shall receive a full and honorable
discharge, provided he shall not be under arrest or return to
