CHAPTER 291.

AN ACT to repeal Section 478 of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Criminal Law, " sub-title "Vagrants
and Tramps, " and to re-enact said section with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 478 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland, title "Criminal Law, " sub-title "Vagrants and
Tramps, " be and the same hereby is repealed and re-enacted,
so as to read as follows:

478. Every person, not insane, who wanders about in
this State and lodges in market houses, market places, or
in other public buildings, or in barns, outhouses, barracks, or
in the open air, without having any lawful occupation in the
city, town or county in Which he may so wander, and without
having any. visible means of support, shall be deemed to be a
tramp, and to be guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be subject
to imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court or Justice of
the Peace hearing the charge, for a period of not less than
thirty days, nor more than one year. This section not to apply
Co Allegany County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on the first day of June, in the year one thousand nine
hundred and sixteen.
