472 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 234

CHAPTER 234.

AN ACT to incorporate the Alliance of Charitable and Social
Agencies of Baltimore City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Carroll T. Bond, Charles E. Falconer, Harry Fried-
enwald, Frank A. Furst, Frank J. Goodnow, B. Howell Gris-
wold, Jr., and Daniel Willard, all of whom are residents of the

State of Maryland, and their associates and successors, be and
they are hereby created a body corporate, under and by the
name and style "Alliance of Charitable and Social Agencies of
Baltimore, " and by that name shall have perpetual succession,
and be capable to sue and be sued, to complain and defend in
any court of law or equity; to make and to adopt a constitution
and by-laws for its government and amend the same at will;
to make and use a common seal. And shall have power to ac-
quire by purchase, gift, devise, or legacy, any real or leasehold

estate or personal property, and to hold, own, use, sell, lease or
dispose of the same at its pleasure, or to mortgage or encumber
the whole or any of such property to any extent that it may
desire, without individual liability on the part of its members;
and generally to do all and singular such matters and things
as may be necessary to carry out its objects and purposes, and
to exercise the powers and privileges by this Act conferred
upon it.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the objects of said body cor-
porate are:

(1) To promote organized effort for the prevention of pov-
erty and disease and the improvement of living conditions in
Baltimore City and vicinity; and to aid in all work designed
for the advancement of the social welfare and well-being of the.
people of the State of Maryland.

(2) To provide for the closer cooperation of various associa-
tions having the above objects in view; the avoidance of dupli-
cation of work so far as may be consistent with the charter pur-
poses and individual integrity of the several associations; the
effecting of economies in the cost of raising funds and the re-
duction in the number of appeals for funds on behalf of the
member associations, and for other charitable and social pur-
poses.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said body corporate shall
consist of such persons, organizations and corporations as shall,
