Immediately following the election the judges and clerks
hereinafter provided for, shall count the ballots, being governed
therein, as far as possible, by the manifest intent of the voters,
and shall make the return, hereinafter provided for, to the
Mayor at the meeting of the Mayor and Common Council held
on the second Monday in May. After each election, as herein-
after provided for, said returns shall be opened by the presid-
ing officer of said meeting, canvassed by the Mayor and Com-
mon Council, and the Town Clerk, and certificates of election
in accordance therewith shall be forthwith issued by the Town
Clerk to the Mayor and Councilmen receiving the highest num-
ber of votes at such election, and appearing from said returns
to be elected to the respective offices for which they were can-
didates.
Until their successors are elected and qualify, Frederick E.
Weber shall be Mayor of Mount Rainier; John Kline shall be
Councilman from the first ward; John M. Earnest shall be
Councilman from the second ward; Harry B. Lanning shall be
Councilman from the third ward; and Robert E. Joyce shall
be Councilman from the fourth ward; unless they, or any of
them, shall become otherwise disqualified under the provisions
hereof.
